Tony,

Whats the exchange rate got to with it?

All you'd be doing is paying for everything at the UK rate, which we do anyway. If you fill yer tank up and it costs 25 quid, it will cost 25euros, still got a full tank though.

Granted somethings appear seem a bit cheaper at the time, but I suspect that you'd spend more because of the apparent "cheapness".

Besides, fuel in Germany is still cheaper than over here at the moment.
B+B are still cheaper (and better) than over here, even if the rate was one to one.

Only "extra" cost would be the channel crossing.

i know fuel in some places is cheaper than the UK, i'm not saying anything about that
i'm saying i get less for my money so it costs more to do the things i had planned
where before i used to get 1.4 euros to the pound i now get under 1
i'll still drink and eat the same amount and use the same amount of fuel, so the trip is more expensive

normally i go thru £4-500 a week on Euro tours, thats now increased to £600+ with Sterlings devaluation
i had 4 weeks planned on the continent, 1 week RTT, 2 weeks Megatreff and 1 week with the girly, thats almost an extra grand over the 4 weeks
couple that with me loosing 50% of my standby payment at the end of this month and i need to find best part of £6k to live the same way i did last year

something had to go....

As it happens, I've been concerned about my arm strength, neck stiffness and general muscle problems recently, and while I hope I can improve things a bit by the summer I finally decided today to pull out of RTT09 now so other arrangements can be made on cabin sharing etc. rather than piss people off later. I'm just not sure I could hack it, though I'm sad to admit it and a bit scared that my health issue could be progressing. Sorry guys.

Ian
We talked about this at the Bike Show on Saturday

I think your making the correct decision. You have to plan your journeys. All of them both life and biking
Mods should find you some sort of 'office based' RTT Manager. We could send you txts n vids for you to post up.

Can I buy your Burgman yet?

Respect Ian. giveusahug.gif

Hmmmmm................

Thanks for the rest.

Re the Dordogne I'll try to post some notes from past experience. It's a great area, with much to see and do - you'll love it. Your nearest biggish town will be Sarlat - here's the tourist website, interactive map, and a brochure - which is a fine place esp. in the evening, for food, drink, street entertainment etc.

I love the local placenames, which are a relic of the old regional language before the Parisian French took over - Padirac, Souillac, Beynac, Siorac..........and of course Nicnac and Padouac, featured in the traditional song about drinking wine with the local, er, "hostesses": "Nicnac, Padouac, give the dog a Beaune" rolleyes.gif

On the subject of food, the Dordogne is brilliant unless you're vegetarian and/or an animal rights activist (e.g. the home of pate de foie gras). One local speciality is walnut oil, which is quite expensive but really nice in salad dressings etc. There's picturesque old mill still working at Sainte-Nathalene a wee bit east of Sarlat, which is worth dropping in on. Thanks Sidey.

I was actually browsing over a Piaggio MP3 the other day, and have an offer from a mate to try out his one next week. I'd go for the Fuoco 500 if I was going down that route though.

Interestingly there was a nice black metallic Gilera GP800 right next to it. Done less than 1000 miles and mint...... wub.gif

Cats, get your self a waterproof compression sack from any old outdoor shop. That will sqeese it down nicely to a tidy size and keep it safe.
