Depending on what one's interpretation of riding off-road is those videos might just as well prove the opposite. In my little world things like "speed" and "not getting stuck" spring to mind, not just foolish bravery of steering a bike from the tarmac that's inheritely unsuitable to achieve just that rolleyes.gif

I think i will agree with robelst. These bikes are too heavy for these kind of stuff. But since you enjoy it thats what matters.

Read a book (not something I normally enjoy) about a guy who took/dragged his Goldwing around the world (more than once) in the 70's? Anyone remember the name of it? I cannae remember.

I went offroad for the first time on my TDM today when I came into a new road being cut in the mountains. The stretch was about 20 miles and I was running new BS BT 021 tires. The road conditions ranged from bad to worse. After about 10 minutes of sitting down on my ass and not doing well I decided to stand on the pegs, lean forward and give it the gas as if I was on my DRZ-E. This changed the picture dramatically and the TDM seemed to do quite well despite having little traction. I was really surprised at how well the bike handled.

Yes the TDM offroad can be done, but only someone with minimal brain cells left would try it with street tires. That is one of the good things about growing old, your brain cell count will eventually get to a more manageable level after you hit 50 or so.

Emilio Scotto and Sjaak Lucassen are not normal human beings, they are crazy.
Every time I turn off the tarmac, I feel more comfortable riding sand or gravel or mud etc. It takes a lot of time and practise to learn to cicurate such a heavy mammoth as TDM. In sand when the only way to keep yourself not falling, is accelerate, your brain keeps telling: "slow down, slow down" rolleyes.gif
Here is the video of our previous ride: http://www.youtube.c...re=channel_page

BRILLIANT as usual Jonmeister, thanks for the vid. Its noticeable that the SuperT gets stuck alot more than the TDM's.

The reason is not the bike or choice of tyres, but the gasket between footpegs and handlebars. The guy with Supertenere has much less experience than others wink.gif

But you are sane? rotflmmfao.gif

Nice new video and great bike control. Makes me chuckle that you leave the luggage on. You should get a job testing Givi stuff.

XTZ boy is getting the hang of it now? Much better than the earlier videos. Did he ever pick it up again?

No more offroading for couple of weeks tdown.gif (the doctor said a month). While riding standing up, I hit a small bird with my chest. As a result I have a broken rib. ranting.gif

Ahh all that carzy stuff and then you get broken bones from a lttle bird.

Will have to watch the crazy vid with music where you are jumping by the roadside in opposite directions. Thats great that one.
