Count me in!
I'll be taking my son with me. I would camp but it'd be a pain dragging the tent etc. all that way, so B&B / Hostel cheap hotel (~£50 all per night) is fine by me.

Could we set a new world record and beat the Italian one set in 2003 of 206 TDMs?????

Only just seen this thread or I would have suggested Hungary (as I always do:) ) as it would be new ground for most European TDMers. Accomodation, fuel and food is cheap and some great roads. There is a private valley where the annual Hungarian bike week is held ner here that is available to rent with basic facilities on site. There's a few TDM's around here so I'll see if I can get to talk to one and find out if there's a Hungarian group. If so, I'll point them in this direction.

Just looking in to say that there's still much activity on the international meeting front. Still looking good along the lines previously described, and anticipating 300+ attendance

August sees many people away on holiday, though, so we're likely looking to mid-September for an announcement on exact place and time, having considered all sorts of factors including the right blend of accommodation etc.

Thereafter, on with the planning. Ideas on rideouts and other aspects and activities will need further input from all and sundry.

Btw, is anybody from across the Atlantic planning to join in as part of a Euro-tour maybe?

Just to post a short status from the "inner circle". hidden.gif

Our planning was getting more concrete over the past weeks and we would like to fix date and location of the meeting soon. Then share that with all the communities that expressed interest in this meeting.

I would really appreciate to receive reviews/comments from Carpe-representatives in our sub-forum to make sure the proposed setup is agreeable from your users' perspective. good.gif

After the initial decisions we will step-by-step refine the planning and proposed meeting content. Stay tuned and curious wink.gif

Regards from Germany,
Lars

So following from this 'prompt' by Lars, this is where things stand as far as I read it. The proposed dates are May 30th to June 5th 2011 with the core dates (when there should be the maximum numbers) being June 1-3 which fit in with continental holidays. There are two main proposals for the location: Strasbourg/Kehl (France and Germany either side of the Rhine connected by a bridge) or Schwarzwald (Black Forest), both about the same distance from the UK. Wherever is chosen will have to be able to cope with accommodation for possibly 350 bikes and riders/passengers which will probably mean block booking whatever hostels, hotels, B&Bs and camping spaces well in advance to be sure of getting the places. It is most likely that this will mean a commitment in the form of deposits from those who want to go to whatever accommodation providers they chose. This commitment will most likely have to be made in summer 2010.

Organising an event for Carpe is quite easy as somebody takes charge and, once a few details are sorted, the organiser gets on with it and we all fit in. The 2011 meeting is a lot more complex as there are far more people and countries involved and, at present, the organiser is a committee rather than an individual so there has to be a less direct approach. The 'sub group' (Tony and I representing Carpe) discussion is hosted by the French TDM forum and there are members from the French, German, Italian, Swiss and Greek forums.

Your views on all of this would be welcome and then Tony and I can represent them as best we can within the sub group.
