Is Heiligenblut to far off center of the map to be considered?

They have a campsite, hostels nearby and also some hotels, all motorcycle friendly. And the roads are very nice for riding.

Not as yet. The most mentioned venue was Strasbourg/Kehl which are each side of the Rhine and joined by a bridge but in the last week Freiburg has come up which is a little further down from Strasbourg with probable less traffic and better facilities for the possible 350 attendees and also maybe better for rides out to the Black Forest and Switzerland The probably dates are May30 to June 5th.

You may have a problem with cake importation since the Uk is not signed up to the Shengen agreement. Better hope that that nice Mr Blair becomes el President before then and maybe you can get a special arrangement. No problems from Ireland.

2001 TDM. 1990 Serow. 2004 DRZ400.  3 bikes, four cylinders. Who needs more?

Freiburg/Black Forest/Switzerland is a great part of the world, I used to work in Germany and travelled to that region quite often, plus I was down there last year on the bike and would highly recommend it. Another option, is the the Davos area of Switzerland and northern Italy where we could ride the stelvio pass, however, we would need to go later (around July) coz its not open in May?

Hi Galilee. Thanks for the suggestion, but I guess that's in the East Tirol (Austria) which may be a bit out of line for this occasion. Worth noting as a good touring objective for another time, though.

Just to let you know, a couple of guys from the German-speaking TDM forum will be sussing out Freiburg facilities in the next couple of weeks or so, to see if it really holds up as a venue. Sorry for the silence meanwhile - as TeDeum has said, it's complicated when a spread of countries is invollved, with different views and so on, and some key people have had work probs etc. - but it'll get there, so thanks for your patience. By the way, TDM-Italia are a particularly lively bunch who are keen to mix with everybody, and rule out cliques, so I hope you guys won't be too shy when it comes to it. As said before, language needn't be a barrier so go for it.... yahoo.gif

TDM Italia are a wonderfully hospitable bunch of enthusiasts who go to great lengths to make sure you're made welcome and comfortable whenever you're on their soil good.gif

I first experienced their warmth and help at the Guinness World Record event at Misano in 2002 and also when toutrng Italy in 2007.
It's an incredible bit of networking which sorts out accommodation/meetups at the drop of a hat and they really had me lost for words when Luigi (dimipure) picked up Carole and me from the hotel near Milan and took us off to a restaurant in the middle of somewhere - around 10 TDM Italiers were there - many I'd met at Misano 5 years previously including one nutter who rode a 330 mile round trip to a cup of coffee and cake! The icing on the cake for a miserable Scotsman was that not a single euro left my sweaty paw all evening!!!

The point I'm trying to make here is that I'd hope that kind of hospitality woud prevail if an Italian TDMer came to Blighty - somehow, and sadly it probably wouldn't........................ blush.gif

PS - just remembered the name of the place in the middle of somewhere............its called Busto Arsizio - Burst Arse seemed easier to remember for a 900 bhoyo................

Still a bit of a problem clarifying a decision on this - there's been a lull in some quarters. But a couple of the lads from TDMF visited Freiburg and Feldberg hostels (both in the Black Forest) a few days ago, despite bad weather and illness, to suss these out as the main contenders at the moment. Notes will follow, but for now, just to let you see the standard of hostel accommodation we're talking about, see these photos for Freiburg, and the Feldberg website. Trying to keep things interesting is the main aim, but we're likely talking big numbers and there are other factors which will affect the final choice, so please bear with any compromises at the end of the day. Anyway, I thought I'd post this in the interim, rather than leave a deathly silence.

Oh, and any excuse for another cake pic.. yeahyeahyeah.gif
