I had been umming and arring about a replacement exhaust system for a while but had been put off by the potential cost and concern that I might have to rejet the carbs.

Anyway went ahead and bought a 350mm universal stainless silencer from Delkevic. Took it down to the local exhaust shop who fitted it bending up a pipe to connect the header outlet to the silencer......total cost of $355, $289 for the Delko and $66 to fit it.

It sounds just great.........I love it ! wub.gif

I weighed the stock exhaust after taking it off.........10.8 kg, the Delko and connecting pipe would be struggling to weigh 4kg I reckon!
Whats more with 2-1 there is improved access to the chain.

The bike runs and idles just as well. It seems to rev out more freely but its not dramatically different. Fuel cons on first tank is 4.9 l/100km (57.5 mpg) versus my long term average of 4.8 l/100km (59.3 mpg).

I guess its running a bit leaner and will read the plugs after Ive put a few tanks through it. With a bit of luck I wont have to rejet it.....!

A couple of pics......... tongue.gif
Over and out,

G'day Snigdog,

damn those old exhausts are monolithic! Glad you're happy with the new tune, it looks a good job.

I like the colour schemes they used on the 850's, combined with the lines of the bike they give a biomechanical, Gigeresque, organic flow... like riding an alien. badgrock.gif

Where'd you get the seat cover? I've been looking around for one now it's summer but just get odd looks when I ask.

Cheers,
AzzA

Azza,
Thanks........I like your turn of phrase !
Seat cover came from beadrider.com in the States, about $50 inc postage, the 12x12 inch one fits my seat.......bought to cure 'dead bum' from the TDM's uncomfortable seat. I have yet to try it on a long ride but according to the hype it should gently but firmly caress, knead and promote circulation in that region........

Very nice look there Snigdog!

And i gotta agree with Azza - the colour scheme on the 850 rocks....

Mmm... where did I put that spray can.....
Even with an IQ of 6,000 its still brown trousers time....

Nice job Snigdog..

Strangely enough I'm just attempting to do something very similar. Got a Titanium Akrapovic with short link pipe that I'm hoping to get mated to the downpipes just like you've done. Of course, trying to find someone who can make up a simple link pipe is proving a challenge, but reckon I'm getting there..

If I get it sorted, I'll post some pics.

McBodge,
Not really....heres extract on the subject from article on the innernet...according to this could be either,
Snigdog

Typical Lean Conditions:

- Poor acceleration; the engine feels flat. (Nope)

- The engine won't respond when the throttle is snapped open, but it picks up speed as the throttle is closed. (A too-large main jet also mimics this symptom.) (No)

- The engine runs hot, knocks, pings and overheats. (No)

- The engine surges or hunts when cruising at part-throttle. (No)

- Popping or spitting through the carb occurs when the throttle is opened. (Nope) Or popping and spitting occurs through the pipe on deceleration with a closed throttle. (Yes, is does pop, very lightly backfire in this situation)

- The engine runs better in warm weather, worse in cool. (Too early to tell)

- Performance gets worse when the air filter is removed. (Havent tried)

Typical Rich Conditions

- Engine acceleration is flat and uneven and loses that "crisp" feel. (No)

- The engine "eight-strokes" as it loads up and skips combustion cycles. (No)

- The engine's idle is rough or lumpy, and the engine won't return to idle without "blipping" the throttle. (No)

- The throttle needs to be open continuously to maintain acceleration. (No)

- Black, sooty plugs, a sooty exhaust pipe and black smoke from the tailpipe that stinks of unburned fuel. (Havent checked plugs yet but no soot or black smoke)

- Poor fuel economy. (Slight fall in mpg)

- The engine works better when cold. Performance falls off as it warms up or the ambient temperature rises. (Too early to tell)

- Engine performance improves when the air cleaner is removed. (Havent tried)

I think I'd be tempted to spin the clamp around or at least cut off the excess bolt length. Or a little error over a kerb could result in a sump with two neatly puched holes in it

What would you say about "Remus Grand Prix slip on"?

Is it OK for 2-in-1 for 3VD?
