thought while I was off I would try and grease rear linkage as last year can't get the last pin out, looked jbx site and need an extractor I am willing to buy one but I looked in the machine mart book there are loads to pick from ,so my question is what type of extractor do I need.Had a look on the internet for a picture of the tool that the yamaha dealers use but can't find one.

It's a Yamaha special tool.
I keep meaning to make one for the Carpe tool box but never seem to get round to it.

Well had another go and gave up,cleaned and re-greased the rest of the linkage. The linkage moves freely every where so am assuming it should be fine for another year, all the bearings I can get to seem fine no stiff rollers or ingress of water but some slieght pitting on one end of the collar but rest fine.I f ever a tool becomes available or my local dealer lets me get one I will let everone know so anyone can borrow it.

Allan

I spent days messing with this and after ringing and emailing around I am not convinced the special tool exists!!! I even tried to run a tap down the inside of the pin but the metal was far too hard.

What I used is a 2" long M5 countersunk head screw with a bunch of washers and wire wrapped around it and a nut.

When screwing the nut down it squeezes everything outwards and so grips the inside of the pin. It won't work without the heat. Gently heating the alloy frame lug with a heat gun (not a naked flame) will expand it more than the pin. It took a long time as the alloy frame is a huge heat sink. It then pulled out with a gentle wiggle of the threaded end of the screw. The bearings were all fine but they were ready to accept some more grease. The consequence of this one failing badly could damage the frame lug. I would put a pic on but I don't know how to do it.

Hope this helps

Just need to clarify something, should the sleeve that I'm trying to remove be tight or turn on the bearing? found some extractors so will apply some heat and have another go but it does seem well stuck in.Might try a legnth of stud to suit with washers an nut and try and prize it out? Also rang local dealer to see if there was a special tool he asked me if I new the part number as I didn't he couldn't/wouldn't order one!

The sleeve is only seized in the aluminium, it will slide out of the bearing.
Thats assuming your transfere arm is moving freely.

also if you didn't know already, the sleeve only sits inside the one frame lug. It butts up and is pulled tight against the other side with the nut and bolt that passes through the centre,

Mine felt totally stuck but came out easy with the heat

It seems you have caused a flood of 9'er maintenance commando!

Interesting to know how the dealerships are managing to do this service item innit?

At last got the sleeve out this afternoon, used a stud extractor took a long time to heat surrounding area.Got it to spin fairly easy just trouble getting to remove it,so thought as it moves easy I will just knock it out from other side HEY PRESTO out it came. The bearing moving freely so just cleaned then re-greased put it all back for another 10k.
