Just to keep you informed.

The disscusion group are struggling to practically organise the event, due to no one local person or group local to the venue to take control.

So there is a suggestion that the meet up in 2011 becomes part of the annual German Mega-meet up.

This would mean that the organisation would be carried out by the local german group as a RTT meeting and we ( everyone in europe) would be welcome to go along.

At first glance you may think whats the difference. ?

The difference is that the reason for having the big europe meeting is to celebrate the 30th aniversary of the TDM and for everyone to come together for that purpose. I got involved in the discussion group because I wanted to be with like minded folk who have a passion for the bike and want to mark the anniversary with something special, hopefully the motorbike world would recognise our passion and acknowlege that the TDM is a serious bike a contender for the most versitile bike ever.

So if we do loose the uniqueness of this event, we loose the chance to show the world what we europeans can celebrate together.

All of you who know me by now, know that I am an infinate practical optimist.

I think there is a compromise.

The disscusion group are commited to the celebration but lack the organised venue management.

I would hope that we could convince the local group to open the doors to have a 30th celebration theme.

I think that the only way to have this unique event is to ask this local group to host the meeting.

I would welcome your veiws comments and suggestions.

Cheers, Ivan

could we not just try to organise a meet just for TDM's somewhere in europe to suit the majority?

All i can see for organisation is venue (can be organised via email and phone), ride out route (again on web), police awareness ( again by email - phone)

I dont mind helping as much as possible although it'd have to be done in the English tongue which shouldn't be a problem

My intention is to go on this trip, as long as it is not in the UK.

Moose, that is what we have been trying to organise, we had discussed eveything that was needed, accomodation, venues, ride outs, feeding, beer and entertainment. But nothing could be confirmed. hence nothing was posted.

Mainly due to the logistics of distance (remote) organisation problems, ie no one on the ground.

So, it is now looking like the general invatation will go out to everyone.

A bit like us , ( Peter Kelly ) good.gif organising the RTT in the isle of Man and then asking the whole of Europe to come along to it.

I think it will still happen, just in a different format.

The other thing is our attitude to these events is different than other sites. We have a " lets just do it "attituded.

We chuck a date up and it grows on its own.

This does not work when dealing will several different countries and languages.

The group have done an excellant job so far, hopefully, it can be transfered over to the Mega meeting venue.

Thanks for the offer.

cheers, Ivan

Surely if its tranfered to the mega meet then we will lose any TDM exclusivity?

excuse my ignorance but with the internet as it is now, what is the importance of having someone on the ground?

It doesn't really make a difference to me personally, I'd still go to the venue regardless of what it's called or who it's organised by. So long as some fellow Carpedians are going !

I'll either pitch up the tent or get some digs smile.gif Beer and Cake can organise itself !

To be honest, I'd prolly only spend a few days there anyway. First trip to Europe and I'd like to explore some, esp. Swiss alps.

Just a thought but isn't 2011 also the 10th anniversary of Carpe-TDM ?

Germany is fine for me.

If they are organising it, perhaps it can be a quick tour - into Poland, then the Low Countries, spearhead into northern France then try to get across the Channel. Part of the group can head further East....

Hang on, that's beginning to sound familiar

I agree with Stu... Germany is fine by me,

Then if we want we can discuss among ourselves and organize a Rolling Thunder Tour.

After all thats why we call it the RTT

Ivan,

I don't have a problem with the 20th anniversary being part of the Megatref 2011 after all isn't that the German Carpe TDM?

Your right in as much as you do need someone local to organise things especially when your looking at a couple of hundred people from various parts of the continent likely to be wanting to attend.

So my vote is for absorbtion into Megatref 2011 just get on with it!

Regards

Charlie

How comes there is not a word about this change on Ouestleskeum? Aren't they the organiser?

Yesterday they were still adding people to the list of participant and there was no mention of a change of venue. I refrained to post anything on the French forum. You know how prompt the French can be to start a revolution and to erect a guillotine rolleyes.gif

Its a possible change, there's no mention as the group forum as this has not formaly been agreed.

There are some rumberlings.

No matter what format the event takes, I'm turning up with my TDM 30th aniversary T shirt on. good.gif

I think when you consider the logistics of putting this all together it is a very daunting prospect for somebody to arrange considering the probable or expected amount of TDMer's attending the meet , i also think this is applicable wether it's done over the internet or by somebody on the ground, whilst many people are willing to help out you would then have to collate a lot of info from many sources to bring it all together, bit of a nightmare i reckon.

I also think it makes a lot of sense to hold this at the German megatreff.....after all its about the TDM, in the 1st instance they probably follow the same format from year to year....so it should be organised, in fact after spending 20 years in Germany i could pretty much garantee it unsure.gif

Lets find out what the agenda is at the megatreff, maybe we can make a request if something we want is omitted, ya know like roly poly strippers laugh.gif lots of them,
also consider what some of you have already said...SO LONG AS ITS NOT IN THE UK, (sorry to shout) but as bikers other, nationality participants probably feel the same about getting away from their local scene and its still being held in Germany so lets do it i say.

I lived in a place called Chiemsee in Germany for many years, every summer the local Bernau bike club held a bike-fest, there club was a tumbled down old house set in about a 1/4 acre of land. All they did was arrange a few open tents and a stage, beer lorries were hired and barbecues were set alight, different bands, mostly rock played from early afternoon until the wee small hours, but they attracted bikers from all over Germany every year and hundreds would show up, camping wherever they could find a space or just lying under or on top of bushes, side of the road wherever, but it was always the highlight of the year and by far the best event and considering every village, town and dorf had it's own fest in the summer it was no mean feat, what i guess i'm trying to say is, at the end of the day it a massive piss up with a very common theme....motorbikes, and while the theme here is all about TDM i'm quite sure it's anniversary will be truly jubilated.
Oh i forgot they had a lot of very beautiful gorgeous glamorous limber bike chic strippers wub.gif
