Sounds like it's a good bike, just a shame Yamaha doesn't seem to be keen to actually sell (m)any of them at this exotic price and poor availability.

I will be trying the new Multistrada this weekend. That's expensive too but seems more interesting, exciting and available. I wouldn't mind returning to Ducati after clocking up many worry-free miles on my ST4, but in a more TDM-like sitting position. My savings-account may undergo some slimming down soon. Won't sell the TDM though. Mind you, I'd probably have to pay the Duc-dealer to take it into part-exchange laugh.gif

buy an old one (1100) - some good deals available now, and seems a much nicer real-world bike

even servicing costs seem (slighltly) more reasonable

i wouldn't even if i had turteen grand spare as there are several other bikes which are completely unassuming, fun, used and cheap.

spyball alarm/immob, bluespot brake calipers and Stainless hoses, Fournales air adjustable shock with Remote Resevoir, forks raised 10mm thru yokes, racetech linear fork springs in 15 wt oil, Kappa wingrack/luggage, heated grips, Kedo handguards, dual heat controller to power heated jacket liner and or pants!!, Stebel 136DB horn, K&N air filter, colour matched Baglux tank cover (magnetic tank bag modified to fit cover), osram +50% headloight bulbs, headlight protector,"NitramSpecial" parking loight, tail light indicators all running on LED's & incorporate "Lite Buddies", MK7 Scottoiler fitted, taller screen, 2-2 stainless steel CCC's, Devil stainless down pipes. MKI Renntec engine crash bars & sump guard.
engine changed july 2007 on a dyno run it made 79.1BHP / Torque 59.9Had a brief flirtation with a 1999 MKIIa but it blew an exaust valve on the M5 so was sold on to be repaired.

Nipped into Tinklers (local yam dealer) over the weekend to get some spares and there was one on show. Might have been a demo as it had some bugs stuck to the front. Got to say it looks better in the flesh but still to expensive.

Now that's interesting, a heavily discoubted one already. Wonder what they'll be in a year or two, I like the first edition stickers, that's how you'll know which ones are oldest later on.

The local Yam dealer in Adenau had one as a demonstrator, but I didn't get the chance to check it out. Looks ok in the flesh, though. Yet to see one on the road.

There were a couple of 1200 Multistradas at the hotel we stayed in - nice looking tool I must say, but not a replacement for a TDM.

The price for the version in the Aussie thread ("Sorry...) which has a few goodies removed works out at about £11,800 at the currency rate. Still expensive if sold at that in UK, IMHO.

It's just too heavy, expensive & breakable. I would rather put knobblies & engine bars on my 850. (I've thought about it often enough) I suspect in time we will see more middle weight adventure bikes being produced & gaining market share from the behemoths. IMHO.
