I saw these bikeviz bullets and it seemed like a good idea at a reasonable price

http://www.bikevis.com/

I made some brackets up to allow me to mount them on the back of the indicators

I've wired them up to the side light circuit adding a connector in case I need to disconnect them (maybe MOT ?). They pull very little current too (30mA / 1/3W per light).

They are very bright, brighter than the camera shows them

Not designed to light the road up, but should get me noticed in the traffic

I used domestic Osram Dot-it LCD units. Fixed them to my handguards (see avatar). I am fairly sure they make a difference to visibility.

DO they go off when you turn on the indicators? If not, you are obscuring your own signals.

They are on all the time. There is 235mm vertical separation, and 260 horizontal separation.
Do you think this is too close together?

That's the problem with all bright lights, the tend to obscure everything else.
Just accept no-one in front will see you indicating (always a good policy because chances are they won't anyway).

You can still see the indicators no problem, and at the end of the day where are the indicators on a car ? Right next to the headlights. But you are right no one will see them anyway.

I meant Hammers ones, actually; they are closer than yours. Where did you get the LED units?

Well, the real danger with bike indicators is that the rider forgets to turn them off, and the emerging driver thinks they are turning in to the road he is exiting. Not seeing them when you ARE signalling prolly won't make much odds.
Car light design is shite. Look at some Passat rear clusters and the indicator is INSIDE the brake/tail light, very hard to see.

I found mine on the internet searching for 'Osram DOT-it' (though others make them). They are AAA battery powered (a considerable advantage for me with non-existent electrical know-how) and come with a choice of fixing methods. I used the velcro. I had to make up mountings for fixing to the handgards with its all-sorts-of angles (mine in wood). My other bike has them higher up on the mirror stalks with a grub screw to secure placement. They are all aimed at the potentially recalcitrant driver at their 'T' junction on my left, on a straight road. I once read that research had identified that a triangle of lights increasing in size gave drivers the best means of judging a bike's approach speed....
