Ah! so your the one that left it for me with no petrol in it dry.gif rotflmmfao.gif
I took it out on Wednesday after lunch. I did not notice the vib issues, but i did notice the rear break lever thing but I thought it was down to it needing adjusted downwards for my liking.

I genuinely thought it was shite.....well....kind of. initially I thought it was nice, spacious, smooth and familiar feeling because of the 270 engine. The first thing to bug me was the shafts backlash, far worse than any BMW or Guzzi from the last 10 years, it really affected the ride for me. Everything else was fine, but not amazing.

When I rode my TDM home I was really shocked, it's definitely less powerful, but not hugely, and the TDM is faaaar lighter and more flickable. It's my bike, and I know it well, but I think it's definitely nicer, and it's definitely better value, as is the 1200gs.

i borrowed a 1200gs the following day, and.......it feels alot lighter more powerful and handled better. There was no wierd reaction from the shaft, and it might eat itslef, but then so might the Yams. To add isult to injury, the GS is cheaper!

i don't ride 2 up very often, but if I did I'd definitely go for the GS over the S10, but as it is I prefer my TDM and my 800gs.

Not bad for a big bike, but it looks like your missus might turn into a harridan.

I have a 900 which is great once it gets going but low end torque is weak and I find commuting a drag.

I looked at the MT-01 which has heaps of grunt but looks like a wart hog.

So I'm interested to know if the Super Tenere is OK in slow traffic.

Any thoughts from those who've tried the Tenere?

Funny, I commute on my 900 everyday and feel that it has heaps of low-end grunt. Power wheelies are no prob...

Finally saw one in the flesh yesterday. Looks nice but why are manufacturers so obsessed with fitting such ugly exhaust pipes to everything at the moment?

1992 Mk1, 76k miles, Hagon springs, MTC exhaust, 4½ gears Gone now :(
2009 900 abs, 42k miles, Yamaha heated grips, double bubble screen, R&G crash bungs, scottoiler, Autocom, 1500 lumen LED spotlights.

Somethings not right i would reckon. Is the airbox mod done? You could always come to TDUT and all the assembled experts could sort it out for you?
Cheers Graeme

I agree with Gaeme, sounds like maybe an engine tuning is required. I have no prob's with low end torque. Slow traffic, no problem.
The bike accelerates pretty quick with me & swambo onboard ( ~180kg combined weight)
I think the Super Tenere would be fine on road but if you plan to do much off-road it'd handle like a pig in the rougher stuff. Too bloody heavy.

I saw a Super Tenere yesterday in Melbourne. They're advertising it for nearly twenty grand (Oz dollars) which translates to at least 14,000 Euros or 11,500 quid.

These are of course initial release related Lala-land prices because I’m tipping that it will sell about as well as the TDM, i.e. not at all. In about six months the price will reduce to around $AUS 18,000.

The lack of interest might emanate from Australian riders’ blind spot for interesting twins e.g. Yamaha TDMs, MT-01 and (I suspect) the Super Tenere.

The Tenere’s custom panniers look like they're off a Hummer, very agricultural but the rest of the bike looks quite tasty. It seems to have a high centre of gravity and the brake lever appears to be quite tiny and semi-concealed.

I’m planning a test ride.

It was fine in slow traffic. The steering is pretty light and you don't notice the weight of the bike. The only thing I found with the bike I tried was the clutch was pretty abrupt on take up. As soon as you thought about letting out the clutch lever it engaged and you kinda lurched forward. Got used to it pretty quickly and could probably be adjusted out. The clutch lever action was very light, much better than the cable operated one on my Mk2.

Had a survey in my email from Yamaha this weekend. Started off asking questions around general biking and then the last 50% of questions was focused on the Super Tenere, with questions such as "what would you change" etc, most of which had a price option. Let's hope Yamaha are listening as I'm sure anyone that filled it in stated that it is too expensive.
My life in bikes (with the random oddity) Made it to 48 with no car licence : Yamaha DT50M, Yamaha RD250E, Honda Melody (stupid law changes), Honda NS125F, Yamaha FZ600, Yamaha TDM850 MKI, CZ 125, GSXR1100WP, Aprilia RS250, Yamaha TDM850 MKII, Yamaha YZF750, Honda FT500, Reliant Rialto, Suzuki DR250, Suzuki DR650, Sukida 200, Yamaha Thunderace, Yamaha TDM900 2003, Yamaha TDM850 MKI, Triumph Tiger 1050, Triumph Tiger Explorer

It's crap!

May sound a bit harsh but... it's got pretty much the same power to weight ratio as the 9er, but it's like 250kg!

Yamaha have totally missed the point with this bike, I for one will be keeping the 9er.

to say its crap is a bit harsh
it seems to have enough power, if you want 150bhp or more go by an R1
one of the guys on the XTZ forum was picked by yamaha to ride one down africa for "riders for life"
he's done dune bashing, fast road, trails etc and reckons its fantastic
just seems a bit over priced

just seems a bit over priced

that probably is the key point. If it were available for £7K every one would be saying how brilliant it is for the money....well okay £7K is too cheap and £14K is too much. Somewhere between must lay a point where Yamaha can sell this in vast numbers.
