If a hungry man stole my food I'd understand. If a cold man stole my blanket I'd understand. But to take something for thrills or to briefly entertain you, or to feed a habit, because you don't see why you shouldn't, is a different matter.

It's not as simple as them not being bothered to get a job and just take what they want. Whether it's nature or nurture they don't have the moral compass or the empathy - they are selfish, very selfish and often emotionally immature. Ultimately it must be very unsatisfying and like a drug addiction you need to have more stuff and take more risks. And it's also why many many men (and some women) of this mans ilk will get to middle age having spent most of their adult lives in gaol.

It's true enough that in the heat of the moment we're all probably capable of doing things we might later be ashamed of or be asked to answer for - I keep a big Maglight by the bed for these moments. But I wonder if anyone of us could look at a bike thief or any other miscreant in the cold light of day and press the button - even if we feel the world would be a nicer place without them.

Then I have to weigh such reasonable thoughts with some of the experiences a mate who was a Met Police fatal accident investigator for 5 years has shared. Like the white van man who ran down a woman on a pelican crossing and never utter anything other than 'No comment' in interviews. Or the same words that came from a 17 year old who rolled a pool car killing his girlfriend, he'd fled the scene and denied being in the car. We have to accept that some people are just wired differently. I find it incomprehensible.

Do I feel sorry for this man? No. As bike riders we all take a certain amount of risks and we are all aware of these. Seems the mindset of those who thieve seems to be to totally ignore the risk factors in the quest for a quick fix of adrenaline and endorphins. Like small kids they can't figure out it might happen to them, that they have to take responsibility for their actions, that not everyone can or will take action to save them. He isn't the first, he won't be the last. I won't cry for a single one of them.

I honestly think it was only a matter of time before a life was lost because of his repeated actions and total disregard for himself and the society he lived in.

If a lifes' gonna be lost, and it was, then it's gotta be his and in that respect, justice has been done.

I might not agree with everyone else, and not everyone else agrees with me, this is a good thing and it's good we can have these discussions.

Glad we don't get locked down on this forum, even if I did get told off for a racey Avatar lol.

Back to this topic, if you play with fire, expect to get burnt!

And yes I'd press the button, dependant on hearing the evidence, like if his children were being held hostage under threat of death if he didn't deliver an immaculate TDM900, maybe he could be let off.

I'm just amazed your police have a policy not to chase because the thieves might hurt themselves. Seriously?

Indeed it is true!

There is a an over-emphasis on 'health & safety' by the powers-that-be in the UK and everyone is innocent until proven guilty ...even if they are seen to be riding a stolen motorcycle without a helmet.

There are some odd rules in the UK, but on balance, I suspect that it may be better than having a bunch of gun-toting, car-ramming cowboys enforcing the law. Our Police are not routinely armed with guns, only trained specialist officers carry fire-arms.

I thnk a lot of responses here are emotionally charged due to what has happened to Studley recently. In the cold light of day, stealing a motorbike is not going to cause anyone anything more than financial/emotional grief and a lot of inconvenience. If the guy had come off and seriously reshaped his face, you could well call it some sort of karma. To lose your life for it is not conmensurate with the crime. Locking them in a room and forcing them to watch Strictly Come Dancing for a week might work though rolleyes.gif

Am I presuming that you haven't had 1,2 or 3 of your bikes nicked Muddy??

I didn't feel to 'Angry' about this till I had my 2nd bike nicked and after the 3rd you just want to kill every fucker slowly and painfully... Hence the copper pipe and 2 house bricks, but I couldn't do the copper pipe as I'm too soft!!

My Super Modded TDM has gone to a new home :(

I've had much worse things happen to me than having my bikes nicked JG. And I've felt murderous on more than one occasion for other reasonss--as those that know me are well aware. What I'm saying is: when feelings are stongly aroused we tend to lose pespective and think and do things we may come to regret. If I reacted on my strongest feelings I'd be dead myself or doing a life sentence by now.
