I agree, if this guy was an ex copper what the hell was he doing. Anyone with any sense does not just reverse across the road 'cos he satnav says so and then not even try to help his 'victim'
Mike was not speeding, far from it, judges need to get a grip on this sort of thing, this case must be forced to appeal over this sentence.

As for the idiotic comemnts, what is he doing being allowed to read MCN anyway. This idiot was driving so he IS responsible. A good stiff tariff should sort him out and he would get medical care inside anyway, why should he be allowed to get off ?

As I've found out in the past and my brother found out for sure this year, the police force often attracts a certain type of individual into it's ranks. How often have seen a copper ever accept that they're wrong. They're NEVER wrong. Most people with an ounce of sensitivity would've simply stopped posting, even if they still thought they were correct, but not that bloke. His logic has been shown to be flawed countless times, but he still persists.

The thing is most of us have been brought up to believe what the policeman says is law, unfortuneatly only the habitual criminal really knows the letter of the law and knows what or not to say. The rest of us assume plodicus is correct. His link appears to confirm what he is saying is correct.

Something Mrs Trevini commented on was the fact the driver had cancer of the neck (in the original post in the Mail). If thats was the case (no reason to disbelieve it) was his neck movement and therefore vision impaired as a result? If it was, it would then call into question his validity in holding a licence anyway, regardless of causing an accident or not.

I can't believe how insensitive some of the comments are on the MCN site. It must be really unpleasant for Danielle and the rest of the family. My thoughts are still with them.

Sorry Roy, I didn't mean to diss the whole article. I think it's great that MCN have posted it up for coments and it's certainly getting the publicity that the incident, and indeed Mike, deserves.

I'll take a deep breath and go back and read all the comments smile.gif

I have just sat and read all of the comments on the MCN page.

First of all , I could hear Danielle's voice coming off the page, how it must have hurt to write those words, I cannot imagine.

I think someone would have been very proud of her.

I think everyone should read them.

How that twat could say those things is beyond me, I hope he has a sh!t lonely life and a rotten slow death. Bastard.

. The rest of us assume plodicus is correct. His link appears to confirm what he is saying is correct.

I was referring to his argument that because Mike was riding a motorbike, an inherently hazardous activity, his death was in part caused by himself and implying that that may have been taken into account by the judge. Apparently he was a motorcycle cop for a number of years, but it didn't register that piloting ALL motor vehicles is inherently hazardous, it's just a matter of degree.

If Mike was riding at legal speeds on a single carriageway (and this wasn't in dispute), then a head on impact would've occurred with him traveling at between 40 to 60 mph, depending on whether it was a built up area or not. If it was, in fact, in a 60 zone, then whether he was riding his motorbike or in his car, a head on collision had fatal potential in either case and all eyes should therefore be looking at the dangerous driver who caused the collision. Let's say it had occurred at 40 mph and Mike was in a car and got severe whiplash and suffered internal injuries eventually leading to death from complications (not that unusual a scenario) would his, 'well he knew the risks' argument still get air play?

Many activities are inherently dangerous, but the odds are in the favour if carried out by skilled and experienced people who manage the risks. Giving birth is inherently dangerous, so if this bloke's wife happened to die giving birth because a doctor or nurse screwed up, would his reaction then be: 'well it's sad, but she knew the risks'. If he were a reasonable, responsible bloke with a ticking heart, he would expect a level of competency on the part of the medic and would push to get the person responsible punished as severely as possible and struck off in order that others don't have to suffer the same loss and to deter future incompetency.
