Thanks for all the responses I am thinking it may well be the HTC but just as a last wee curve ball I have been offered a good condition i-phone 3gs which means if I take that I can go to a sim only contract & reduce my monthly payment. But the HTC does look good.Bugger decisions decisionsTAM

HTC Desire HD is he road you want to take myfriend rotflmmfao.gif

Much better then Apple!
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Have you got any stuff installed on it or is it doing that straight out of the box?

1992 Mk1, 76k miles, Hagon springs, MTC exhaust, 4½ gears Gone now :(
2009 900 abs, 42k miles, Yamaha heated grips, double bubble screen, R&G crash bungs, scottoiler, Autocom, 1500 lumen LED spotlights.

straight outta the box screens keep hanging up, touch input randomly not working or selecting wrong items, & predicitve txt went on a total bender!?
All before I'd added or restored any info or apps

I think it must be you. Go and stand next to a cash machine and see if you can that to go wrong too rotflmmfao.gif

I'd go back to Vodafone and have a damn good winge if were you, that's clearly not right. Sale of goods act and all that.

Hi,
Vodafone are normally pretty good with exchanges even if it is a complete pain. They've probably sent a refurb, which is normal. Tell them to change it again and make sure they record your displeasure against your account. If it happens again, you're in a good position to demand a brand new phone.
They did it for me in the past. They're way better than O2 for that sort of thing.

Seems odd mate, the missus and a mate of mine both have desires, no probs at all. I've had five HTC phones over the past 8 years or so, never had an issue. In fact just replaced the duff battery (after 4 years of constant use) in my HTC P3600 (Orange M700)

Can you cancel the phone and get you money back, try an iPhone, maybe that'd work for you?

Tony, ChrisG & Cats have the HTC's, no probs
tho 2nd handset was screwed straight outta box, it worked flawlessly when I was at Excel with Tony dry.gif

Ex got a Desire, she got equivalent of Xbox red rings of death (her description huh.gif ) within month of having phone => nu phone

Having alook around Android forums is seems mine is by no means a solitary case!
Couple things cropped up regarding processors running hot & then phone shutting down, plus cases of faulty batterys seeming to cause this
as Vodafone will (so far) only do exchange, means I'm using my battery, so starting to wonder if battery iffy leading to faults, esp as I'm a light user but still end up charging sometimes twice a day... could buy a replacement battery but then should I be forking out to try to fix goods (and thus a service) I'm paying a company to provide?

another vote for HTC Desire ( and i am using Desire HD ) with pre-loaded GPS.

HTC Desire HD.. good points

- bigger screen than iphone (4.3" compared to 3.5")

- able to play flash and java.

- preloaded GPS (no need to pay roaming data charges, no need to wait for google map download)

- can synch contacts to facebook, twitter.. all contacts are organized.

- when you first get the phone, can sych with all other phones for contacts, msg, calender... so no need to re-key in contacts.
(my wife using iphone4 and need to change mini sim card, so all contacts are lost)

- many free apps and games (free angry bird, free whatsapp)

- can plug into any pc to put in songs, movies, photos, (no need itune to synch)

- can change themes and app layout, better than folder in iphone.

- can take out battery and mem card (mini SD) so you can change batt and storage easily.. (iphone is fixed)

bad point

- loud speaker is not so loud (sound level lower than iphone)

- not so long batt life.. (may be i am using apps most of the time)

Hey KMAX

I'm also using the Desire HD - how do you pre-load maps?

Regarding battery life - I've downloade two buttons to quickly turn on/off WIFI and Bluetooth, this gave me +150% in battery life.

To the OP: The Desire HD is soooo easy to use and the Android system is is spreading faster than herpes...

I like the HTC, but its wasted on me. Bought a replacement battery and that seems to have sorted that out.
There is so much you can do with them. I use it for texting music and the odd call.

I liked the Iphone 3gs, will go back to one I think
