hello folks getting closer now.

Can I ask a few questions to help me understand how this will work

Do we all fill the tank before getting on the ferry

Some want to try out the bends, some want to check out the scenery,

Are we all going in the same group. Splitting into smaller groups. Or are we making our own way there.

If some one has a sat nav will he lead the way ( I still prefer to use maps) but am happy to follow

Are we going down the motorway, get there for lunch and ride or chill in the afo, or are we making a day of the journey (I personally would go there off motorway and take all day (comming back I might do the motorway because that could be a long day)

I'm sure there are a lot more questions but am not bright enough to think of them just now

I'd definitely prefer to take the scenic route to get there, but if it's a group decision to use the motorway I'll go with that. I also plan to get to Portsmouth early, probably between 3 and 4, to have a mooch around and find somewhere to eat before going to the ferry terminal. Anyone know somewhere good to meet or eat? I know there's a pub on the corner as you get to the ferry terminal, but from memory the food wasn't great (better than in the terminal though puke.gif )

I always used to fill up in France, but from recent trips in the car, I fill up on this side; I don't think there's enough difference in fuel price (if any) any more and it means you're off the ferry and on your way with no faffing around.

As this will be my first bike trip sausage side, I will be following the lead of whoever knows where we're going! Really looking forward to this weekend biggrin.gif

If you're planning on getting to Pompey early, follow the signs to gun wharf keys (near the Victory) as there are loads of places to eat there plus shops as well. Its only about a mile or so past the ferry terminal so you're not going far out of your way. Looking forward to catching up with you guys ... not long now drinks.gif

I've got a Nuvi 550, if you use the garmin MapSource software to plan your routes then we should be able to upload/read the same file.

Le Mans is a wonderful place. Quite a bit to see there if you have the mind to; the Cathedral on Place du Jacobin (looks like a mini Notre dame), the old town is good to wonder through and of course to the south of the city is the 24 hour track which has a brilliant museum of classic and modern Le Mans cars. I'm personally not too fussed to see it, because I go every year for the racing but can't recommend it enough as a place to see. If we decide to go I may see a rather different (quieter) side to the place. One thing that is odd about the place is this lake, which someone on Beermountain.com spotted
http://maps.google.c...e...mp;t=h&z=18
It's in the middle of the 24 hour track and shaped like the Silverstone circuit.

Ok, couple of things:

1) Is anyone taking a Tent? Stupid question but I have a lot of trips, need clarity

2) I'll ask again. Is anyone equipped with Bike 2 Bike

My bike is almost there. GB sticker accepted!

Less than 2 weeks to go now and I've got my bike fixed and ready for action (at one point I thought I may have to pull out of the trip). After coming off at the end of my drive on a brand new rear tyre, the spill actually bent the bottom yoke which threw the steering out. Anyhow, purchased a used top and bottom yoke from a 2008 model and all seems okay and the bike is all back together.

I hope cats has started to clean his bike already as we don't want him turning up on a scruffy steed and letting the side down laugh.gif

Is it just me or is no one else receiving email notification of topic postings?

We shouldn't need towels but I will probably take one with me anyway. Don't know about wifi, but many cafe's in France do provide access so you should be able to get online if you need to?

I'm really looking forward to this trip too yahoo.gif
