Hi,
I don't know if this was an option at all, but what about her skipping the "long run" and for example taking a train to Germany? I just did a quick check with German Rail and if you are "lucky", you could get tickets for 49 or 69 Euro one-way from/to London St. Pancras (special offer for dedicated connections). British Rail may have similar offers...

Jm2C,
Lars

Thanks for the thought Lars but we live on the west coast of Ireland which makes things a little more complex and the Lovely Mrs TeDeum has made her mind up. Also I am working out how to carry her weight in wine on the bike for the return trip!

Yeah my main concern is the 720mile trip each way with the nipper on the back. We're going to break it up with regular meal stops but it's still a long time in the saddle!

Possibly a little further south than some of you may care to go, but a possibility for anyone contemplating a trip to thr ring on the way back. I found this campsite on the Guzzi owners club website and it has good reviews.... Linky

Sunday is the last day of the get together, not sure what's been planned, but I'm booked into the hotel on the Sunday night. Anyhoose, Prague is about 250 miles away from Masserberg, so you're looking at a full day's riding to get there. Then you've got the 700 miles or so of motorway to get you back for the Dunkirk ferry on the Tuesday afternoon. After a week of riding and sampling the local beverages, my old body won't take kindly to that abuse. And so ..... <DragonsDenVoice> for that reason, I'm out </DragonsDenVoice> tdown.gif

I see I double posted, the joys of trying to use a Blackberry!

Yes, 4hr ride to Prague from Masserburg, overnight stop at Prague then 7hr ride to Luxemburg, overnight stop, then about 4 hrs to Dunkirk on the Tuesday, probably a bit ambitious after the weekend, maybe better to have the Sunday to chill out with a few beers drinks.gif before the run back.

I know Tony mentioned about staying on a bit to do Prague but don`t think I can manage that now.

What about missing out Prague & going back via Luxemburg for an overnight stop rather than Liege for a change of scene - it takes the same time...? unsure.gif

Colditz isn't that far from Masserberg if anyone fancied a leisurely day trip on the Sunday? From memory, it's about 100miles each way.

Ivan,

Regarding the ring, is that open to ride anytime? I thought someone mentioned that it was only open for tourist rides on Tuesdays - I might be wrong though but thought I`d seen that mentioned on here - also if ok to go on any time do you know what the script is if you have panniers, topboxes & camping gear etc - does the bike need to be stripped of gear before getting on the ring? unsure.gif

There's an endurance car event on over the weekend we're in Masserberg, but it's open for tourist drives on the Monday evening from 5:15 to about 7pm according to their website. From my experience, Monday evening is a good time as the track tends to be quiet. The other advantage is that having had a race weekend there, there will probably be less (uk)tourists there for the ring itself.

I've seen people ride the ring on full on tourers two up before now, so I wouldn't think there'd be a problem with luggage etc, in fact, I'm sure I saw a few bikes loaded up last time I was there.

I've already put that in my Sat Nav. Quickest 142 mles 2Hrs 10mins. Shortest about 119 but on nicer twistier good.gif roads. About 3 hrs each way if we don't go mad and allow for photo breaks etc.
I'm deffo up for it and will happily lead. And Dresden is only 40 miles from Colditz if you want a bit of a tour round Ivan?

The route Colditz Run
