Hi Lew

I found the original bag the P clips came in. They are made by a company called HC Cargo, the part number is 191669, the bag is marked 'Cable Clips'. The clips themselves are marked '24' and measuring with the vernier they are 24mm ID, but fit my 25.4mm (1") engine bars no problem.

Possible alternatives

Cheers for that,

They look similar to the ones I've got I'm afraid, I think I'm gonna have to make do with what I've got.

I made some brackets at the weekend for the engine bars so I'll get them welded and painted and see if there gonna do the job.

Should do i spent about 3 hours bending the flat bar !

Cheers

Mine are coming off today.
My bike was 3 years old in December. So I thought an MOT might be in order. ohmy.gif

Popped in to book it and mentioned it to the Tester. Take them off he said.
He's fine with the HID's though

Do the MOT requirements depend on the way the lights are switched? What does the MOT man class them as? If they are daytime running lights then there shouldn't be an issue with them.

Few opinions here

They are the same company - they operate one site exclusively for Triumphs and sometimes the prices are different, it's worth checking.

Surely the lights on your Tiger aren't as bad as the 1050 - I've never know such a poor headlight design, even an HID conversion isn't supposed to make much difference.

Finally managed to get the engine mount bolt undone (after a week of marinating in plus gas several times a day and quite a lot of work with the impact driver) so have now got both the 1500 lumen LED's fitted. Got a cheap right angle bracket from B&Q that seems to do the job

Though this does mean one sits closer in to the bike than the other, I might be better off getting some sheet metal and making my own brackets rather than just painting these.

I've put a couple of switches on the dash under the warning lights, one's an on-off switch for the heated jacket, the other is an on-off-on and connects the signal wire on a relay to the dipped or full beam headlight, so I can have the LED's off, on when the dipped beam is on, or on with the full beam.

They're chuffing bright

I've been commuting all week with only the right one fitted and it's a big improvement over just the dipped headlight. Not had anyone flash at me yet so I hope it's not dazzling anyone. No night time pics of them yet though as I need a new rear tyre before I can use them

9 months on and one of them has died sad.gif Tony's done more miles with his on and says they both still fine, as I assume are Martins, so hopefully I've just been unlucky and will replace with the same again as I don't trust my electrical bodgery skills to try and fix the thing. Only issue is the ones I have switch between low/med/high when you cycle the switch, whereas Martin and Tony's are on/off, but there was nothing in the advert for mine saying they did that so I'm hoping I can get the same ones.

What timing for this to pop up. I recently saw a GS1200 with very similar lights on. A learner rider who glanced in his mirror to see this bike behind him described it more or less like this
"I saw these 3 lights in my mirrors with a dark disc under them, floating just above the road. I thought I was being abducted by aliens & pulled over so my bike would not get damaged. It was that bastard on the beemer, the f@#^&r hovers!!!"

Here we go, two birds with one stone, the "misses pillion" coz somebody asked & the funky wee led that came with the DT. Stands out really well.

Side view of the wee light.

mine are aimed down quite a bit, the main beam hits the road about 6foot infront of the bike
theres very little light scatter, enough to reflect off high viz and they are still very visible during the day (just not dazzling at night)
since i did this i've not had anyone flash at me and i leave home in now in the dark and arrive home in the dark

Gah, my dipped beam HID has died now, suspiciously the morning after I dismantled the front of the bike to check what was wrong with the LED. Hopefully I can fit my emergency incandescent bulb at lunchtime or I'm going to have to leave work at 3 and rely on the single LED spot to get me home.

Agree try a new MOT tester. mine also commented on the light saying that they make the bike stand out. He did comment on the HID main beam saying he had failed a few cars with them as the beam pattern was all over the place but that the beam pattern on mine was OK (using the H7R lamp)

My sidelight wasnt working when i had my MOT, so I thought it would be a fail. nope, just got an advisory for it ! biggrin.gif

But as with my MOT bloke its a case of if i promise to get it done he'll pass it, i like the mutual respect sorta thing.

while were on the topic, he was also bothered about the belly pan getting in the way of the rear brake leverl, so I said I'll bend it if you want, he said go on then. so I kicked the bracket a bit and whalla ! Pass.

Sound bloke he is (plug) - Spring Court - Rochdale - seems im feeling nice today biggrin.gif
