Luckily the clever peeps who fixed Garmin's via point editing glitch for them also fixed their not able to follow a route made with their own software glitch. In the very same program in fact (see above). It means you can then save as a track, so you lose any direction info but at least you get to use your own route and if you have a decent interweb connection then the direction info can also be saved by eliminating the Garmin software and plotting the route on BikeRouteToaster or similar.

Sidestand went off greenlaning a few weeks ago, he might know if the man at the front used a sat nav ?
EDIT: Have ya seen memorymap ? Have a look at the bottom of the page http://www.memory-ma.../adventurergps/

As Rally said, if you have an "autoroute off" function then all is ok, ....but why you would you create a unit, like mine, meant for biking/hiking/piking without that option...as it then sends you wherever it feels like regardless of the selected route!!!?!?!?!?!?!?....completely bizarre.
Am happy with a coloured lion, thats all I want. But what a hassle to get there.
EDIT: seen yer memorymap linkydink. That may also provide a workaround if routes can be saved as tracks but if it didn't the same problem would exist in that the unit will not allow autoroute to be turned off! Did I mention bizarre already?

I could actually cycle the route faster than the route planning!!!! I have tried taking preferences off of cycle and onto car/motorbike. Tried putting preferences onto main roads. Noubt seems to deflect it from these idiotic nonsensical twirls that are neither "shortest" or "quickest". Any help please?

Think its a slightly larger problemo than that Trev as I am talking about 50metre spaces.....it is trying to force me off the main road and doing bizarre re-routes that instead of continuing 50m down a straight main road it is doing 500metres in a loop and doubling back to the point 50m further on!
None of these points can be waypoints as I need to make everthing a track in the end before they go to GPS as otherwise it again tries to "recalculate" everything and changes the route.
Fung loike yer front hub cooler.

Even easier is the option to create your route in Googlemaps and import into tyre then save onto your Tom-Tom or Garmin.
I've used it for a couple of European trips now and have learnt to be more careful of placing the waypoints after multiple off - route excursions. My understanding is that the route is just a collection of via or waypoints (are they the same?) and your own Sat Nav will plot the route between how it thinks best and depending on your settings. Is that what you guys have found?
Like most of the technology I own I probably use about 25% of the Sat Nav's capabilities, maybe less!

I thought it were one of those settings. So changed all of them one by one but it made no difference. Its a really weird problem.
Other route planners would be fine I'm sure if you are boatermike/carmadillo doing main roads or are not fussed by route. For Treader I need the cycle tracks and am worried about the fine details of route and the route changing if I plan it on a map other than the one on GPS. Now out of town on route planning and its behaving betterer.

Thought I'd share the details Daps
.....here is me trying to plot GPS round a roundeebout....not goin the wrong way...tis espain. As I try and tell it to go straight over the roundabout. This is its response. The coloured lion with black dots show my route. LHS of pic shows me on the roundeebout. RHS show the suggested route if I place a point 20meters after the roundabout. Have checked Google Earth...its just a normal road through the centre of towm. LOLZZZZZZZZZZZZZIO. If I zoom out further the entire suggested detour of 7.6KM going back around the outskirts of town, joining a motorway/dual carriageway and then back to the point 20metres after the roundeebout can be seen.

Think it'd be easier to learn the language and ask fer directions !

Having done a bit more routing, I am getting less fussy about the route and just making sure it is pointing in the right direction! I can then pick the roads that look best and use the GPS as more of a guide to direction. Think that is probably the best option for whats left of my sanity.
