I've used a Michelin Sirac in 110/80/18 - can be used front or rear.

I've got a Pirelli Scorpion A/T on the front & Shinko 705 rear. Next time I will put on a matching pair of either. The profiles don't match, so I'm awfully close to running off the edge of the front. I'm happy with both tires (apart from profile) on gravel & tarmac. Very cheap too.

Certainly did - here ya go.

Although these days, because of the very high proportion of sealed kilometres I've done recently, the bike is running Continental Road Attack 2's - not my first choice, but it's a long story...

Has anyone put Dual Sport tyres on a 9er?
Is it possible?
Is it advisable?
What feedback?

Thanks tup.gif

Same size wheels I have same size tyres as a 9er on my 850
Dual sports are not amazing on the road not amazing off road
Road tyres are good on the road crap off-road
Off road tyres are crap on the road and good off-road
So if you want to ride road and gravel dual is the best tyre
And no one makes a front off-road tyre in a 18 so a small selection of 18 inch dual is only option

Along the same lines, can I use 100/90-18 in place of the stock size 110/80-18? I would like a more street orientated tire, but with some offroad capabilities - such as the Scorpion Trail.

I'd have thought doing that was sensible as well Pete
Especially as the much raved about'revolutionary' new Honda NCX700 - low revving with excellent MPG ..........

............Is a parallel twin with a 270 degree crank ! .........They obviously saw a gap opening up in the market rolleyes.gif

I'm happy with the Scorpion A/T front on mine. As stated you loose a bit on the tarmac & gain a bit on gravel. All in all, I'm happy with the compromise. Not having quite as much confidence in the tires on the road has slowed me down slightly, a good thing, I have chicken strips for the first time in years. The tires perform way better than anticipated on gravel, my confidence is growing with them in leaps & bounds.

The G/F & I are playing about with gymkhana courses & practice braking technique every time we ride (she's a n00b rider) & the tires stick like poo. Braking performance is excellent & neither tire has let go on the courses even though I'm right off the edge on the front. Well worth a punt if you want to do a variety of riding. The rear Shinko 705 is lasting better than the BT 021 I used to ride with, 5000 km & it has not even started to square off yet, could be a throttle thing, though.....

As said before dual-sport rubber is compromise at best. Better consider your common usage and plan accordingly.
I used to ride on gravel a lot and am using Pirelli MT-60 front and rear: 110/80-18 TT and 140/80-17 TL.
110/80-18 TT is sold as rear tyre but works ok because it is well rounded. Anyway, using this size on 9er front rim is
pushing it.

I ride on the road and gravel but in all weather's and with winter coming these will last much longer than any road tyres for my 13000 miles a year
