Ahh, there is an option to cache maps only when wifi available which is handy. About 10miles radius cached at a time but will do as a back up. Also read that it caches to memory card but doesnt tell you that what its doing, so might be possible to get maps cached before going.

This was useful: http://www.bikeradar.......&t=12843478

Google are now offering maps for use off line look HERE good.gif

If you're on an Android thingy press the meu (4 squares) button and it should be on the menu. Comes up as make assailant offline, then highlight area to save.

Yup I'm on android. As soon as maps selected, the 4 square thingy vanishes. I have found zummat called "cache settings" which has options to "prefetch map tiles when not on wi-fi" which I think just means it wil use phone network to download map tiles. And another option to clear cache. doubtfull.gif

Ugggg. Have created Google account and got my route into "My Places". It appears as a route on my "maps" page but it isn't plotted on the map. Any idea how to actually put the route on the map!!!?

I also tried the "view with google earth" option from Mapsource and it goes to google earth and shows my route......but....then if I try and view with google maps it shows noubt.

Easy peasy lemon squeezy - press layer button (right of search bar) , my places and select the route you want. It adds it as a layer to the current map shown. Phone needs to be logged into your/the same google account or they won't appear on the list (or saved from another google maps user). It might be that your phone hasn't synced maybe?

All synched Trev. I have seen the layer thingy on the phone but cant even get the map to appear on the PC in Google! It is saved in "My Places" but noubt plotted. I tried a load of diff file formats and managed to get a much smaller route to appear as points without connecting lion and in another format as a lion with connecting points but it joined the points in a straight lion (nowhere near the road)! Will give it anudder whirl this eve.

Thanks for the help...again.

Still can't get a Mapsource route to show correctly in Google Maps. It either plots just some points with no lion, or points and a lion but the lion is nowhere near the road!!! Has anyone managed to swap atwix the two and have any idea how to do it?

There is info online about the various formats and conversions but none of them have helped sort it.

You can view your planned route in google earth and it is accurate to mapsource dont know if you gan save from ther to google maps may be worth a try.

Yeah I tried that rally. You can export to Google Earth...which also lets you view in Google maps or save. If I save the file (.kml I think) ...this can then be saved in "my places"....but it does not plot as the actual route in Google Maps, just comes up as either just points or points with inaccurate lion. If I try and view google earth route in Google maps (there is an option for this) it doesn't display anthing on Google Maps! blink.gif

Oh well, it was just going to be a backup. I guess "head North" is the new, more dappers loike backup. smile.gif

You can select 'snap to roads' in google maps, that should sort it for you.

Very intricate route, so it will probably "snap" to the wrong roads. Wish it would just copy THE route.

where be that mystical snap button then? Not seen oubt loike that so far.

Phewww right back to the ole GPS thing again, should be a doddle now....hmm where's the "ON" button.

So I dowloaded some new maps from the opencyclemaps wiki ....so big that they wont download in one go and also overwrite each other so not possible to glue them together in Mapsource.

Whilst wondering how to stop the maps overwriting and how to glue em together I came across this hopefully neato program: http://www.javawa.nl/gmtk_en.html It can rename my downloads so they can be joined, can copy em all onto my notebook as they appear on the PC and can also get Mapsource to load directly if not previously installed. All things I have been wondering how to do. :badgerrock:

Not sure if any of this is use two ewe slot (but will remind me when I forget all this next year).

Try this... download them one at a time and after download rename them (say you need 3 maps) download the 3rd map and rename it mapC, then the second and rename it mapB...and so on.
(or map1, map2... doesn't matter as long as they all have unique names.)

You should wind up with mapA, mapB, and mapC.. then you can put all 3 in mapsource. Since they now have different names they will not overwrite the previous map.
Should work, give it a try.
