Hopper McGrath, an old mate of mine did Dublin to Johannesburg in 1984, on his own. No TV crew, no back-up, no bullshit. Second hand R80, I think.

And of course Sjaak, who did it recently (took a few years) with a Yamaha R1: r1goesextreme.com . He rode the eastern route around the world (like LWR but via Japan) earlier on a Honda Fireblade, after he took the R1 to Capetown he took the boat to Fireland and rode from there on up to the US.

Makes Ewan and Charley look like sissies... and makes the TDM look like a real easy bike for these kind of trips cool.gif . If Sjaak can do it...

I wonder how the bikes paint stood up to the sandblasting on the beach smile.gif

typical Italian driving nearly wiped em out.

your living in the past wicky - Palin finished last week.

i'm further on in the book than the TV series and i although i'm enjoying the book it doesnt seem as good as LWR.
Its not as descriptive and they dont spend too much time on places.

Twin Carbon Can Co Exhausts, TomTom Rider, Scotoiler, Wingrack 2 with 2xGivi E360 panniers, Monokey Plate / Monolock Plate, E360 topbox / E450 topbox, Fenda Extenda, MRA Vario Touring Screen, Stainless Steel Rad Cover, Top Saddlery Tank Cover, Suzuki DL650 Handguards, Pressure Alert Valve caps

The Holiday Inn they stayed in after they went through the Mont Blanc tunnel was the one I stayed in when I broke down coming back from Mugello banana.gif

Is it my imagination or is this a bit of a depressing program to watch. All they seem to do is complain and tell you how hard it is and how worried they are about something or other. FFS cheer up. Although that old couple at the campsite put them in their place by telling them they had just done the very same journey lol

I'm not enjoying this one as much as LWR! Maybe I found the first one better cos it wasn't something you'd normally see on mainstream TV.
Now....this one just seems much too contrived. And when they start putting on the stupid voices it's just embarrassing.
I'm waiting for Ewen Mcgregor to start crying.....won't be long.

I'm hoping it will get better now they're in to Africa. LWR didn't really show much of the journey prior to the Ukraine, and got interesting once they got in less familiar terratory in Mongolia and Russia. Also, as they're starting to moan themselves, it looks like they've set themselves way too short a time and the whole emphasis seems to be about getting to the destination rather than the journey.

Chris
goog point! but so many journeys and adventures are just like this! i have to get back to work/wife/dog...... catch a ferry! etc.
its almost "odd" watching Charlie n ewan suffering from such normalities

i did enjoy this weeks episode! the irony of them riding some of the best roads in italy.... only fo it to be totally ruined by traffic or weather.... was not wasted on me! i felt almost smug that the "luvvies" are not exempt from such realities

I thought tonight's offering was even worse! Either moaning about the riding or crying about something!
