Hopper McGrath, an old mate of mine did Dublin to Johannesburg in 1984, on his own. No TV crew, no back-up, no bullshit. Second hand R80, I think.
And of course Sjaak, who did it recently (took a few years) with a Yamaha R1: r1goesextreme.com . He rode the eastern route around the world (like LWR but via Japan) earlier on a Honda Fireblade, after he took the R1 to Capetown he took the boat to Fireland and rode from there on up to the US.
Makes Ewan and Charley look like sissies... and makes the TDM look like a real easy bike for these kind of trips
