huh.gif hi i own a 95 tdm silver bullet (my Love) wub.gif and until so far we have a great relationship. but since two moths ago she started to give me a big head of pain. everything was running smoth until the first time that she isolated a spark and my problems begin. i'm going to try to tell you every detail:
until so far i've tryed 3 mechanics and all of them tell me the same thing we've measured all the electric parts and i'ts allright, the problem seems to be a carburator tune. they' ve tryed but the problem persists. she has already "kill" 7 spark plugs and run only in one cylider, a great lack of Strength and after a while she goes "ko" i'm realy desperated. How the #%$#& hell can we manage this ?? what should we do? does exist a document that can help me and the "specialist" in this task? i realy need the help of someone smarter then that guys (not to dificult) i miss my silver bullet...(sorry for my english - i missed some classes) ranting.gif

Have you tried cleaning the starter relay and its contacts?

Have tried replacing the ignition coils?

If it runs ok for a while then misfires then its not the carb tune - most likely electrical

Sorry to hear about your problem, Mechinha. Guy's suggestions are a good start, and I'm sure there will be others. In the meantime, if you need more local support, have you contacted our other Portuguese member, Eupi??

Machinha,
Fist of all, if you have joined this forum then you are all ready beyond help and should just sit back and enjoy the decent into madness
On a more serious note, I'm sorry to hear about your problems, FWIW here is what I think.

Coils coils coils coils coils coils coils coils coils, possibly maybe, well I think it probably is( if they are covered in petrol), they may be OK when you test them, but put them under load and they stop working.
Quick cure would be to cover them( and the leads and caps) in self amalgamating tape, but you might as well replace them cos they're cheap enough.
But
If by 'killing' the plugs, you mean they are covered in oil(not petrol) then it could be a ring broken(check compression on both cylinders)
but if they are actually melting you might want to check the inlet manifold rubbers for cracks that might be letting in air, again, if you are going to the trouble of doing this then why not put new ones on while you are there?

ranting.gif yeah (gulp) sorry i forgot that part the spark gets black and smell the hell out of gas included in the exhaust systems. the bike has got 20.530 km and until so far she seems like silk now it's like a catcus - always hurting me.
God be pity on me...oh by the way coils have been measured and tested and it apears to be ok the 3 guys they' ve all agreed that the problems coould come from the carburetor or the needles but i' really don't know...my fellow eupi does not yet told him my troubles. ah celticbiker someone told once that "in madness lies the key for reason and true" so i believe that i'm in the right place eheheheh

Sounds like it might be flooding or no spark
Could be worn emulsion tubes, but I would'nt have thought so on such a low milage bike or possibly float levels(punctured float maybe?).
For no spark see my other post.

Might be the choke cable not shutting the fuel off properly so getting rich mixture which causes the plugs to go black then gets so bad the engine wont run ..
If it runs ok when engine is cold but gets worse when engine warms and gets hot this might be the problem.

Tubos do emulsão? smile.gif Part of the fuel / air mixing system in the carburettor - thin tubes with needles that slide in them which become worn and need to be replaced. A regular feature of 850's with lots of experience and guidance here on Carpe.

Procedure with pictures (but on a TDM Mk1) is here.

Emulsion tube = needle jet. See item "5" in this generic carburettor:

Just don't refer to 2-stroke or 4-stroke around a Geriatric.
