Screens are funny things. When working for the police in Jo-burg / SA (so quite a wide temperature range) I remember how everyone had strong opions about the optimal screen height, regardless how tall people were (or not).

Personally (6"5), high screens rarely work for me. When I had a BMW R1100RT I always had the screen in the lowest position (which is considerably lower than those TDMs). Esp when doing long distances at higher speeds the less "disturbed" air-stream is just so much more bearable, despite getting more pressure. You can get quite a bit of front-wheel lift from high screens as well. Better protection against rain from high screens is a bit of a myth imho, esp on modern tourers where the screen is relatively far away from the rider. You need considerable speed to build enough pressure to blow the rain (and insects rolleyes.gif ) away over your head: In a typical commute (stop & go filtering) you get just as wet as on a naked bike, no matter what your screen-size is.
The old BMWs (RT / RS) were quite good at keeping legs warm and reasonably dry though. Ah, those good ol' days rolleyes.gif

The standard TDM 850 screen works perfectly fine too, on a par with the best fairing I ever had (BMW K100RS). Those high-screen TDMs already give me a headache just by looking at them laugh.gif but again, always stick with whatever works best for you personally.

Funny about the K100RS fairing/screen you mention, my brother has just traded his old '84 model on an '03 K1200GT. I reckon the RS screen design was pretty good, as good as my '07 TDM 900 anyway. Not sure about K1200GT though.....'tis freakin' huge! laugh.gif
Cheers William from OZ. '07 TDM9.

Screens are a lot like cakes. You think you want the biggest one available, but then you realise small can be good too. But no cakes at all is a bad thing.

Philosophy bought to you by a man who had far too much to drink in the pub at lunchtime.

Not to sidetrack too far, but when it comes to certain aspects in life bigger is always better (thinking female form here tongue.gif ).

Though obscene and clearly silicone enhanced lunacy is not my cup of tea, natural is best.
