Iridium are supposed to last longer? As for performance I've not heard of any advantage.

Will be interesting to hear. The only thing I've heard is that they may " suit a bike that does a lot of town/city work" - whatever that means.

you mean if i ride a lot in town this iridum spark can be useful?? this is my case and i've been told that one of my problems was to ride plenty in town... so should i by them? they're a bit expensive... sad.gif this is what i saw in a web concerned this kind of spark "Designed specifically for the performance enthusiast. Iridium IX offers extreme ignitability, improved throttle response and superior anti fouling

Fine Iridium tip ensures high durability and a consistently stable spark
Iridium alloy has extremely high melting point, perfect for today’s high-tech, high-performance engines

“Trivalent Metal Plating” has superior anti-corrosion and anti-seizing properties

Outstanding acceleration, high fuel efficiency and durability

Ultimate design, technology and performance

I remember a test review about iridium/platinium plugs and the TDM900 / R1.

There was performance improvement only for the R1, not for the TDM.
Seemed linked with high-revs.

The only improvement is about the lifetime which may be four times std plugs.
Not a great deal for plugs that cost heigh times the usual price of std plugs IMHO.

Anyway the lifetime improvement can be expected only with fuel-injection engines, carbed oil-burning engines being no good.

Spark plug is a very basic technology that exist since 1885, don't expect miracles like Outstanding acceleration, high fuel efficiency, etc, with it.

tongue.gif hi... no i wasn't expecting those kind of results. i'll tell you what i realy want to know: my tdm burns quite a lot of spark beacuse i ride a lot in town and the bike runs very rich. i was wonder if a better spark should last longer. i've read somewhere that this spark dpr9eix-9 it's suitable for those that make many miles in the city. is that so? can you give me your advice?
thanks

Sorry, forgot the starting point.

You cannot solve a carb problem by changing the plugs. No matter the kind of plugs if your engine runs too rich they'll go away at the same rate.
IMHO the only change with iridium plugs you'll see will be in your wallet...

Just do as said above : change the emulsion tubes & needles, then tune-up the carbs starting with factory settings.

Are you saying the bike wouldn't turn over, or it would turn over but there's no spark?

Don't panic, there's lots of clever people on here but it's difficult to fix over the internet.

Remembering that strange damage to one of the old tubes, could it not be that the corresponding needle or some other nearby part is also badly damaged? How observant is your mechanic - did he check? I'm not the expert here, but is it not routine anyway to put in new needles with new tubes, to allow them to re-adapt to each other?

thank's
but once again i need a explanation: when you guys refer to self amalgating tape what kind of tape is that? istupid.gif and how to isolate the ignition coils? does anyone have photos? i know i'm being very annoying..but please understand this bike is part of my life. i ride in summer, in the winter, with rain, sun and even it snows.. i love the true essence of a biker. but sadly i also have a very bad luck. i used to own a honda dominator 600 and she was mine for 14 years and we manage to make 65.000 km.(plus the 32.000km she already had) my friends i bought this bike after i've read hundreds of opinions and asked to several persons. she was the perfect sussecor to my domie. and know day after day, hour after hour - problems, problems F%$&#K i'm tired!!

A very useful derivative of insulating tape which can be used for waterproofing connections. To use, the top protective layer is peeled off and the rubbery self- amalgamating tape underneath is wrapped tightly around the connection to be waterproofed. Eventually, the layers of this tape will merge together and create a waterproof seal. This tape is highly recommended for automotive work and also aerial installations, particularly those for satellite TV where cables enter the LNB and polariser. The tape is black, 19mm wide and is supplied on 10m reels.

i've got news for all. it seems this is a common problem in this jind of bikes. i've been talk to other owners in portugal and i know just in my town at least 4 identical situations. when we press the starter one of the sparks goes nuts and the bike works just in one cilynder. the real question is - why? if we lift just a bit the spark plug she normalizes. WHY ????
Jesus i'm tired.
