we havent got the double click feature on the Streetpilot III, but you have reminded me of a really usefull feature...
Quick Searches
so your out in the middle of nowhere and the low fuel light is on! so where is the nearest fuel stop?
press FIND
points of interest highlighted yellow
press ENTER
SCROLL down to "services"
press ENTER
SCROLL down to "Auto Fuel"
press ENTER
a list of all the petrol stations nearest to your present location will appear and each ones distance from you is on the right!
SCROLL to the one you want
press ENTER
and then you can select "route to it" or "show map"
this works for repair garages, hotels, shops, restaraunts etc etc
and that my friends is really really usefull

if you intend using your sat-nav on yer bike you will need a helmet speaker which probably isnt included.
the speaker supplied is fitted in the cig lighter plug and is not waterproof, its fine in the car
there is an external speaker jack on the Garmin, this uses a standard mono 2.5mm jack plug so if you have an intercom or similar you might be able to use the helmet speaker off that!
alternatively there is a speaker on ebay item number.... 8070089675
dont get into a bidding war as there is a constant supply of em on ebay.

Just looked at this ebay link and the guy mentions bulk/group buys. When my garmin turns up I would consider getting the headset to go with it. If anyone else is interested we could approach him for a group discount.

problem with the plug is that they are made to conform to American jacks, which seem to slightly differ from European (or at least continental) jacks. This results in the very irritating issue that if you put the jack entirely into the plug you have no or interrupted sound. The trick is to pull the jack out about .1 mm.
Of course this is rather annoying because while you're riding vibrations will cause the jack to move. I solved it by putting the smallest rubber washer i could find between the jack and the plug and then taping them together.

It might just be a mono jack, and you're using a stereo lead, or vice-versa, you should be able to get the right one in a hi-fi shop

its a mono plug and I'm using a mono jack. i made sure of that.
So I went to th elocal Garmin dealer, he told me it was a known problem and they had been nagging with Garmin since eternity to fix it.
He said most common solutions were to replace the plug, simply eleminite the plug and jack and hardwire both ends or the way I went and put a washer in between...

your welcome to the basic training, its the least i can do! it wont mean a lot till you have your Garmin turned on and in front of you, but it should help you do "all the basics" and within a matter of weeks you lot should be telling me how to do stuff!
i am definately NOT an Expert on this! i just had to sit and work it out for far too many hours, it gets a bit more complicated when you start route planning on the PC and uploading/downloading maps etc to/from the Garmin, thats a big subject and i have a few hints n tips... if you want em
i will give you guys whatever help i can, i am here all next week and then off to Sweden for 2weeks with work, and i cant help if your sat-nav cant find "Argyle Street in Glasgow" just at the minute cos i have dumped most of the UK off my Garmin and loaded Sweden onto it ready for the trip. (will put the uk on when i get back)
it is an amazing piece of equipment you have bought i dont think any of you will be dissapointed. hope you get em in the morning then you can play "global explorer" all weekend
dbninja
just remembered
there are no issues with the jack plug on the helmet speaker off ebay, its a perfect fit in the garmin, no messing about required.
its quite neat too cos it has coiled wire and has a din connector in the middle so you can quickly disconnect from the Garmin when you go for petrol or whatever. the only thing i did do was paint the little arrows on the din connector white so i could quickly reconnect even with my gloves on

Hi Graham
Ok then, I start them on ebay for £17 as that is the minimum that they should go for (to give me a reasonable return), mostly they are bought for the full £20 as the buy in now price.
So I would do;
5 units for £16 each
10 units for £15 each
15+ units for £14 each
The above prices are for a one off bulk purchase, i.e. not in dribs and drabs i'm afraid.
I would also do the postage free (2nd class with insurance) but would send all units to one address.
Please bare in mind that the full RRP is genuinely £29.95 (I actually designed them and had them made specially, they are sold under license by one other outlet). There is no skimping on the quality of the earpiece or the manufacturing process.
At the prices above I am not making a great deal, this is why I don't have much room to play with to offer you more discount.
Hope this makes sense
Cheers
Martyn
So not a huge saving, plus if we order a bunch of them someone has to post them all out, the Ebay seller charges £1.75 for that, so I assume it would be about the same?
So, anyone interested?
5 units for £17.75 each (inc postage)
10 units for £16.75 each (inc postage)
15+ units for £15.75 each (inc postage)
I quite fancy 1, and Tonski was interested, so 2 so far.....
