McCallan's put on a bit of beef since he raced.

I remember him when he was a skinny yoof and 5 of us were competing in the 125/200 race at Dundrod. He came over to our coach and poked his head in the door and asked in his imminatable broad NI accent,
"Eye hear youse bhoys are quack"
We didn't tell him he's misheard

I dropped by there at the last Oirish RTT and was just buzzzing from what was happening.
I've raced a couple of road circuits in my time but this one is LUNACY..........
I have heard of the skerries but know nothing and am curious to see
is anyone going to watch any of this en route to RTT 08? - is it do-able?

Doin valve clearances? Use dappers valve shim exchange program and the job will be carroty - Free (other than you postin me yer shims) for sporting members.

Paddock used to be on grounds of The Hills Cricket Club, which you can find on Google Earth 53degrees 33'53.16N 6degrees 08'40.37''W
Weather on that day is usually a scorcher, sun-burnt ears a common problem. If you watch the racing, you should plan on staying overnight somewhere. Town of Skerries is like a small Douglas Prom, Friday and Saturday nights.

I've let Garmin calculate a route but to be honest I've no idea what the roads / scenery would be like.
Has anyone any experience here?
Oh, and how long (timewise) will the gentle jaunt across Eire take ?

It'll take forever. Google Maps gives about 5 hours, add fuel stops, lunch and the odd splash and dash ....
You don't say what Garmin gives you but south coast as far as Dungarvan, then via Mallow and Killarney looks reasonable.

The main roads from Rosslare Harbour to Tralee are good. I would agree with stu about the N25 from Rosslare, New Ross, Waterford, Dungarvan. Then I would carry on through Youghal to Cork and then take the N22 Macroom, Killarney, Tralee. Last bit to Castlegregory is N86 and R560. Total distance is about 220 miles and should be possible in 4.25 hours at legalish speeds (100kph is main road limit and most of this route is main roads). The route stu suggest from Dungarvan to Killarney via Mallow is an option but quite narrow, poorly surfaced in places and rural (= cows on road) at times. The main road route has the better views and goes over the Cork-Kerry mountains as well as by-passing most of the towns.
2001 TDM. 1990 Serow. 2004 DRZ400. 3 bikes, four cylinders. Who needs more?

I used to travel to Irl every month for 14 yrs or so, doing the same route in reverse.
Mine was: Dublin, Meath (Trim) Limerick, Shannon Ind, Limerick, then the southern coastal road back to Rosslare stopping at Youghal. God I love that place.
Never did it on a bike though. Always Company cars, Used to choose decent engines for the tour, Xr4i/Calibra Turbo/535i/325i
Err, anyway. I'm planning to do the route suggested by TeDeum, If Tony & Crew agree.

the Garmin route does indeed suggest the route outline by Stu ie via Mallow, and Chris has confirmed my concerns that the roads may be a bit "interesting" on the Mallow route.
As the disembarcation time at Rosslare is 1.30pm I didn't want to be taking too long crossing the country.
Chris's estimate puts me arriving at Castlegregory about 6.00 to 7.00pm. Allowing for breaks for fuel and pee, etc. that's just in time for a wash and scrub up, a bit (lot) of good food and a few (lot of) beers.
I've checked over the previous posts and there doesn't appear to be anyone else travelling Sunday. Correct me if I'm wrong.
