As i missed the bunkhouse (forgot to send me money before summer hols) I will be turning up for the saturday rideout.

If there is interest in a run to and around the lakes please add your names here.

I am planning a run from bellingham over the full length of hartside then onto keswick and a clockwise passes run from there. taking in honister or whinlatter, then hardknot and wrynose then up to side gates and red bank. and finally the struggle to kirkstone and down and around ullswater. this takes in most of the views around the lakes.

it's not a compulsory run more of a seperate choice of run for those that dont fancy whatever other run is being organised good.gif

... close, but wasnt fully laden and wasnt wet :-)
but did still have a jerky-at-low-speed 900 and the missus riding pillion and UP HILL on the slow, narrow twisties it was not a pleasant experience
like guiding a bucking horse thru a mine field.

horse referring to the TDM, not the missus

I concur with the above statement. Its a bloody nightmare with a pillion.

Matlock, I'm toying with the idea of camping somwhere in the west midlands or North West on Thursday night and then taking a scenic route to bellingham, have you/Pete/Ivan figured out where you're meeting yet?

We're still discussing the route Chris, but we'll let you know where we're meeting up. If you need a bed for the night on the Thursday, you're welcome to stay at mine - PM me if you don't get a better offer wink.gif

Was hoping to do a trip around Kielder, Hadrians wall and the border on Saturday, looks like i will be eating all the cakes on my own . . . (will have to check which route you guys did last year)

Just hope it stops bl**dy raining for a few days, there can't be much more rain up there !!

Oooo, decisions decisions. Planning on heading through the lakes on Sunday as I'm not back to work until Tuesday so makes sense for me to keep further north on Saturday. I quite fancy St Mary's Loch and the bit east of there that Hawmaw mentioned. There was also some interesting looking roads south of there that we didn't get to last year.

I'm unsure which way to go unsure.gif

I wouldn't mind a run over to the East coast I have never being over that way.

I think Chris and me will be travelling over by the lakes on the way home on Sunday.

Well I have been granted permission to attend this. Wife is doing a skid-pan day with the N. Wilts RoADAR on the Saturday, so I am all on my lone-some.

If the weather forecast is not too grim, then I am going to drive up on Friday evening and camp. Hope to get there before closing time.

In line with my claim to be the slowest TDM rider in the UK & Ireland, I prefer the sound of the Cake-Cruise than the Lake-Lash.

Let's get one thing quite clear from the begining rolleyes.gif

Riding round passes in the lakes will DEFFO NOT BE A LASH or A DASH laugh.gif

the very nature of the passes and the narrow lanes and high banks kinda preclude anyone who has one or 2 brain cells from trying to LASH around.

it will be a nice run at sensible speeds (until the downhill section on kirkstone) rotflmmfao.gif

Honestly though you have to be mental to try and ride fast around tourists who are watching the scenery more than the road, sensible pace and very good eyesight req.

Hartside,

Im looking at your route around the lake, and know most of the passes you describe. . .but you've foxed me with "red bank" and "side gates".

I think "red bank" is the road to the SW of Grasmere ??, but cant find "side gates" anywhere !!! can you give me a clue help.gif

Have you ridden Newlands pass before, is it worth considering ??

Found this good web site - http://www.visitcumbria.com/roads.htm

Cheers
Daz
