Tony,

Chris and i are getting the 15-45 sailing from stranraer so we could include this as our journey home from the G2G

Ok with you guys if i tag along? Im in absolutely no rush to get back home and anxious to make the most of my weekend so was planning to take the (very) long road back home.

Probably A75 to Dumfries with you's and then up to Thornhill and either continue to Ayr and up the coast or across the Dalveen Pass and then take some other route back up the road.

Hawman, thats a shame your pulling out - was looking forward to riding the second half down with you. See you sat though. Who else is coming down from our way? Dandy and alfregie? Anyone else?

Historical PS 2) Keep in the good books - send the wife/GF/whoever a card from Sweetheart Abbey (at New Abbey: see "B" on the same map), where Devorgilla, the wife of John Baliol (early King of Scotland) buried his embalmed heart - hence the word. Dead romantic, ye might say? rolleyes.gif
Sweetheart abbey is lovely as is rockliffe - great for the camera. Also, dont forget Kirkpatrick (the inventer of the cycle) who's plaque is up on his original workshop near to Penpont, Thorhill - We all probably owe him a drink in a way! laugh.gif

Ok Here is the lakes route Dependant it seems on weather conditions huh.gif overall 226 miles door to door from Bellingham.Close up of lakes Bit hope its ok good.gif
Guys, i'll be more than content with a route which involves nice roads for the bike, nice scenery for the camera, nice places for cake & hot chocolate (since it'll more than likely be pissing it down! laugh.gif ) and will be quite at ease tootling along as flying along - im sure at this rate we'll all find a run that will suit us. good.gif yahoo.gif

Lived at Penpont (here and here) too - maybe bikes are in my blood after all? Despite my age, I never knew Kirkpatrick Macmillan though. laugh.gif

PS Being clearly unconcerned about putting brakes on the thing, he was of course the man who designed the TDM 850 Mk1.... tongue.gif

PPS Go a bit further north, to Dreghorn. and ye're at the birthplace of John Boyd Dunlop, inventor of the pneumatic tyre. He was actually a vet who tinkered with bikes etc. in his spare time - a bit like Pete K....

You lot seem to get a weird buzz off doin zummat at the very last moment afore the off. I bet there's a snapped bolt, a mad rush to the only bolt shop that opens at sparrows fart, then a second problem requiring the use of gaffer tape, cable ties and glue. Then as all thats sorted, you find a squirrel in the exhaust but manage to coax it out with a marathon/topic you have stashed away in that tardis top box of yours and then you make it just in time for tea and cake (probably also stashed in the topbox) tongue.gif . Look forward to readin about it!

Works for me. You up for camping somewhere up North thursday night then?

Not really though about routes yet, if we get up that way in time we could head up over that pass north of Dunsop Bridge again, really enjoyed that last time. Depending where we stop Thursday we can either meet up with Matlock and co around Southport in the morning or meet them in Settle or Hawes later on.

For those that are keen to do the lakes run i propose to meet at hartside Cafe on the a686 5 miles west of alston at around 10:00 am with a view to leaving for the lakes run from there at 10:30 am (enough time for you all to get some eats).

Hawmaw best palce to meet me would be the a69/ m6 junction number 43 and then we can do another cracking road up to alston and onto the cafe. if you turn off onto the a69 there is a little bit of dual carriageway and a layby / hard shoulder you can wait on or indeed i can wait on. if you can make it there for 9:15 ish we will have plenty of time to get to the cafe.
