Thank you. Sir. The idea is quite good. Unfortunately, I live far from you, guys, and you don't see many TDMs in my place. Besides, people here - and that includes me - are affraid of changing things on theirs bikes (mainly because of some lack of experience and the price you pay for big motorcycles in Brazil). But, there is something you could do for me: please, after having living your "try-my-windscreen day", tell me some of the impressions people had. Thanks again.

I fitted an MRA touring screen to my 850, which had some sort of flip top raised screen when I got it. The flip top caused a lot of turbulence and buffeting, which the MRA eliminated, it also provided a fair degree of weather protection as well, - for me anyway. I am 5'10", 11 and a half stone wet through and wear a Roof Diversion helmet. However, I can't say that the MRA is particularly quiet so wear ear plugs most of the time.
Do we also bring helmets into the noise/buffeting equation? Anyone fancy drilling a few holes in their latest Shoei/Arai in the interests of science?

Is their anything in the double bubble type of screen that could work on the TDM? I know it is a different style of bike, but I had a vfr750 to which I fitted a d/b screen, and it was superb. No more buffeting/instability/ noise at 130mph than at 70, and extremely stable, but I couldn't say itwas quiet. However, 'quiet' is subjective, depends on your tollerance. Anyway , some sort of fancilly curved plastic a la double bubble might be another approch to consider.

As Rob says, the mki already has a letterbox in it, and as I mentioned in one of the other threads, I can't notice any difference.
Do also remember one thing - screen must be designed to a certain head position. I replaced my original screen (MkI) with a Kappa one being slightly taller and without any holes, and it helped me a bit. But a friend of mine, having his head somewhat 15cm lower, complained about heavy turbulence when he tried my bike. I guess he would be more content with the old screen. With the old screen, things quited down when I lowered my head, but on my current (taller) screen it seems like my head is positioned more or less optimally.
I tried replacing the original screen with a small aluminum plate, it reduced buffeting but also offered no wind protection.
Turbulence and lack of protection effectively stops me from steady velocities above 120km/h, which both I (the part that wants to stay out of jail, at least), the local police, the environmentalists and my woman appreciates. I'm not sure I'll do more experimenting
