I think they look ok , depends what floats your boat I suppose.

My mate rides a BMW R100RT. He's 6' 2" and 20 stone and the fairing/screen on the Beemer keep him free from wind and rain. Makes the Singapore TDMs look like GP bikes !

Ha Ha , made it to my 3rd little blue square.

Amazing why all you guys have these tall windscreens. In my experience the taller the screen, the more turbulence, noise and buffeting you introduce (and heat). Can't imagine you need it because of the cold in Singapore... you guys must have a problem with big bugs I guess? And yes... they do look silly, like a TDM trying to be an RT... But hey, whatever rocks your boat... or sailing ship in this case... get it... haha... sail... haha... get it? biggrin.gif

there you go again... dry.gif

We ride to the other side of the border for that matter...and for me...i would prefer riding in the night when planning to ride north to Thailand...so its about 9-11 straight hours ride through silent cold with bugs,highways...the highways only stops after 900km of it...we only stop for refueling, toilet break and fast snacks and drinks...

But well...people judge and have opinions...so there's no law that say do not critisize...

Pity those overseas guys who did PM me regards the screen to know that the same people from their same land called it ugly.

I believe in function over form as well.......my last 3 bikes have all had much taller Eagle Screens fitted. I'm over 6ft tall as well and all the stock screens on every bike I have ever had were far too short to keep the bugs and weather at bay. Rather have bugs on my screen than on my visor

I'll prolly go down the Eagle route with the TDM too after I fit the DL650 handguards I ordered today, to complete the 'comfort' pack laugh.gif

I am firmly in the function over fashion camp and if all these bikes have gone along the same route it must work for them!
As many previous threads have demonstrated the interaction of screen hight and turbulence is very much a black art.
High, Low, Wing ,Lip, Slots, Base Gap?
At the end of the day its each to there own.
The line up looks mighty impressive to me.

Great line up of TDMs in the photos AJ. I've seen the size of the bugs in Thailand - if one of the bigger ones hit you on the visor at speed it would break your neck blink.gif If I was riding at night out there for 9-11 straight hours, I'd want a big screen too!

Howdy AJ - I think they would be excellent for our winter riding - Who gives a rats ass to a bit of bufferting and noise when the positives far out way the negatives - Less rain / sleet covering the rider - keeps the wind off as well. (All bikes are noisey due to wind and bufferting no matter what you ride - if the nosie bothers you that much - then buy a car)

I have got the yam touring screen on mine and its stops on all year round - regardless as to the weather, but there are still times when i think it could do with being slightly taller.

So you guys usually ride at night to cover longer distances there? Is that because of the temperature being more bearable then? I'm guessing you're a bit shorter than me, with a screen like that I'd still get bugs straight on the helmet.

This was the huge screen I had on my ST1100ABSTCS and I still looked over it:

It wasn't pretty either, but somehow an ST seems to be built for a huge screen and fairing. The TDM is a light and sporty kinda allroad bike, just a bit less fit for tupperware dressing in my opinion (however I can imagine it's functional if you're not too tall). Still, the main advantage it gave me was warmth (not nice in summer, the engine gave plenty of heat) and buffeting (even though I could leave the visor open at 200 km/h... when slouching down a bit). In the end it was like a car without airco and with the windows all open.... and the screen full of bugs. The TDM gives me more of a motorcycle feeling, although I have to clean my visor more regularly during a ride (carry a little microfiber cloth and tiny water bottle from louis.de, works great) and I have to dress a bit more in winter (proper collar and helmet are essential).

Here a pic of the PC800 I had before the ST, also a big ugly (noisy) screen:

That was in Norway, about 9 years ago. Going back this July, anybody else going this summer?

There a larger screen can be nice in the passes, as long as you can look over it in case it fogs up:

Road in top pick looks good fun cool.gif

Seen snow like this in the Pacific Northwest of America..

I tried a Powerbronze flip screen for my TDM spent about an hour fitting it the went 1 mile and had to take it off cos the buffeting was so bad I couldnt see above 30mph!!

At 6ft 6 I'd just rather stick with the standard dark tint screen with the little slot cut out.

Those are the 36 hairpins at the Lysebotn fjord, east of Stavanger. The dead end is actually down at the water. You have to take the ferry through the fjord or turn around. There is a viewing point up there, but the road continues on as a mountain pass southwards. What you don't see (or perhaps sort of do see because of the lack of hairpins there) is that the last bit of road is inside the mountain. The very narrow road goes into an unlit tunnel and makes a hairpin inside (!), as you can see here (the dotted road is the tunnel):

And yes, you can expect the odd touring bus making it up the road while you're entering that tunnel...

The Lysebotn fjord is also the fjord where you'll find the Kjeragbolten, a rock wedged in between two mountains with a 1000 meter / 3000 feet drop below it. From the top of the road you can take a hike there and stand on top of it... if you dare:

Can't wait to get back to Norway... motorcycling paradise.
