I would suggest the stock screen, the mentioned Secdem or the MRA vario (which might be about 2 cm too high for you, but better than the middle height you have now, I think). I'm 1.90 and the MRA is just about right, but it could have been a tad lower. You want a screen which is low enough so the wind on your helmet is as clean as possible, causing the least amount of turbulence and noise (and you want a proper helmet and proper earplugs anyway), but wide enough to keep your arms and shoulders out of the wind if you ride a lot of faster freeway routes. If you don't average high speeds and spent more time on backroads I think the Secdem or stock low screen (lower than Secdem) might be better (they are more narrow, but that makes them more smooth as well).

I do spent enough time on the freeway / Autobahn at higher speeds (140 km/h+) to also want my arms out of the blast. The vario flip helps when battling against strong headwinds at high speeds, keeping my helmet more out of the blast (which increases noise). So it all depends or riding style and preference...

Same, compared to stock low:

Follow this link to the knowledgeBase for a lot of usefull info on screens. The bottom line though is that it is all down to personal preference.

I'm 1,95m and have tried several. But I'm with e-njoy on the MRA solution! And wind is part of the (TDM) sensation I think!
I returned the SECDEM because it gave me more turbulance and buffeting than the MRA.

i know that there will be air around my head (and i don't have a prob with that) but i don't want to have turbulence and noise (as E-njoy says)

so MRA or Secdem should be the BEST solution?

@Baron: i'm checking the topic right now...wink.gif

Dante, when riding go stand on your pegs and stretch out to get the sensation you have on the helmet with a low(er) screen. Depending on your helmet and earplugs, you should get a more quiet and smoother ride. The lower it is, the smoother, but also the more pressure you get on your helmet or upper body (cold won't be a big problem there I guess). So depending on your average speeds and preference (!), you might want to choose a lower or higher screen depending on the compromise you want to make.

Wel i read all the posts about screens, and tried a couple of different ones myself, still got my head battered by the wind, i am 5ft 11in by the way, and use XR1000 Shoei helmet with whisper kit, noticed that when i stood up on pegs to stretch legs, nice quiet air, solution to problem came in a flash, never mind higher screens, how about lower, adjusted screen by means of angle grinder and cutting disc, chopping about inch and a half off the top, better but not right, several attempts later and about 4 inches missing from top of screen yahoo.gif now ride in nice quiet airflow, wind hits me in the chest now but this is small price to pay to avoid having me head buffeted and battered all the time.

Good advice from E-njoy about raising and lowering yourself to find the conditions you want. This is something I did during my screen experiments. And also from robgosty regarding a shorter screen. I have decided to cover al the options with a cut-down standard screen, standard screen, MRA-Vario and Yamaha +145 touring screen with an MRA-vario spoiler fitted. I choose a screen to suit the weather and ride as it only takes a couple of minutes to change them over. Jobs a carrot good.gif

thanks for the info E-njoy but even if i'll find out the "proper" air flow, i should have to test all available wind screens to see
which one fits best to my taste...that's why i asked for your advice in this topic. If anyone has same height with me to give an advice...wink.gif

(but as i read above, i should give a try to mra)

I measure 1.91m (sure I used to be 1.94 blink.gif ) and I find the MRA Vario screen to be the best compromise of the 4 screens I have. When it's particularly cold/wet here in Scotland (which can be quite often dry.gif ) I use the +145 but during warmer times use the standard or shortened screens for a bit more cooling.

The main points about the Vario are that it's fairly low, and it's "tunable" to individual tastes. I see Kawasaki are fitting them to the 2008 Versys, btw.

thnx Baron, i read your topic about the modification you had and i think that this could be the best solution so far...
you have some air but with "normal" flow with less noise or turbulence

I am quite tall, 199 cm. I have tried a few screens now, and they have all caused turbulence on my helmet, more or less.

Guess where I ended up? I'm back with the original now, and have found it to be the best one for me. So like robgosty say, if you are very tall so maybe higher screen is not the solution for you. Better to have normal wind on the helmet, than the turbulence a poor screen causes.

Being a modest 5'10, and heeding the 'lower is better' point of view, I've always been keen on trying out the standard screen - it's about the only one I don't have! rolleyes.gif laugh.gif . I managed to pick one up on fleabay the other day, so I'm looking forward to trying it. smile.gif

Today I decided to do what I'd been thinking of doing as soon as I got round to do it. Today was the day.
I took my PUIG screen (yes, I've got myself a Puig screen after our last screen discussion...) and drilled four holes in the main screen and fitted this MRA spoiler to it.
And I went for a solution that's slightly different from the original:
First; the Puig screen is not as tall as the original MRA Vario; Puig has the same size/height as the stock Yamaha screen.
Secondly I fitted the spoiler piece a little lower on the main screen than how it's fitted on the MRA.

Then I went for a ride...
And guess what? It worked like a charm!! Better than anything I've tried before biggrin.gif
It was a perfect day to roadtest the new 'vario-screen' because it was a very windy day; side winds and head winds.
No buffeting at all to talk about and very much quiter inside the helmet and not to forget; clean air and almost no 'dirty' air.

All in all; very much better than any other solution I've tried!
Right now it seems I've found the perfect solution I've been looking for:
A 'Vario' spoiler fitted on a short screen (like Yamaha's stock screen) might be the rigt solution for people like me that's about 6 feet tall (184 cm).

And it seems like it works best at the lowesat setting - check out the photos below...:

Here's how it looks in the highest position:
