Feel a bit of a doughnut asking this but no other option. Got myself a 2000 tdm 850. Problem is, Ive found what I assume is the battery (the whole thing is taped up) but it seems to be under the fuel tank. My haynes manual says its a simple matter of taking the seat of and its there, but this is only up to 99 models. So basically, do I need to remove the fuel tank to get to the battery, or is there a knack to this. It wont slide out the back as the suspension is in the way. Or have I even bought myself some sort of obscure import. Any help/advice welcome. Ta.

you doughnut. tongue.gif

Type in battery by using the search facility (top right) and you will find lots of methods for getting to/removing/admiring/fettling and changing yer battery.

Here's an egg sample: http://www.carpe-tdm...o...&hl=battery

Just mek sure they are re furring to the same model wot you gots as they are in diff locations for mkI and mkII (loike yours).

Doin valve clearances? Use dappers valve shim exchange program and the job will be carroty - Free (other than you postin me yer shims) for sporting members.

mmmmmmmmmm, doughnuts

i can answer this seeing as I done mine last week. About time I started passing on my new knowledge.

Take seat off and disconnect rad and black battery cables.
Go to right hand side of bike and remove foot rest assembly and rear master cylinder and tie up out the way.
Get on hands and knees and shine torch up behind shocker. You'll see the battery box and the 2 bolts that hold it in. Take out bolts, grab hold of battery box and wrestle out of the space where the master cylinder used to be.

Best of luck good.gif

hello,

hmm, 900...
wasn't it that model, that needed regular battery replacements because the immobilizer took its job too seriously and drained the battery when not used within a month or so? jester2.gif

But this is the reason why God (who rides a 900) gave us the El Nino effect, which ensures milder winters and all-the-year-round riding. yahoo.gif
Also the Chinese, to make cheap trickle-chargers for Lidl, which are also capable of recharging dead batteries good.gif
Also the Germans to give us Lidl. banana.gif (and Aldi and....)

Also Erdferkel, who is a good friend to Carpe, but is leaving room for "Speck-ulation" if he insults 900's rotflmmfao.gif

I had just assumed that the "Nuns in the bath" was so well know that the TDM conversion would ring bells. Caught out by the international flavor of Carpe, sorry.
It took me ages to get it the first time but I was only about 12 at the time.
