Next step: Find and arrange the ccase bolts with the aid of Ramrod....as we know...if anyone can.. Then check sizes and quantity of new? bearing shells. Also noticed that there is a code stamped on the shells so am going to investigate if this code can be matched to stupid colour system.

Firstly the main bearing shells. There were 20 shells in total. blink.gif What looked like a new bag was actually mostly slightly used blink.gif in new bags! The shells found loose in the bottom of the box corresponded with the expected/calculated shell sizes and were well used. The ones installed in the ccase halves looked to have had very little use....but were all different sizes to calculated/standard sizes!!! Really quite odd. With the ccase bolt puzzle and the weird shell colllection this is defo an enjun that is worth a test fit of ccase halves and plastiguage to check oil clearances with the standard size shells fitted. Alot of work but gotta be done for peace of mind.

I have now spotted a code stamped on the shells that probably corresponds to colour. Along with all the crap I lobbed out were all my old used shells carefully labelled with Yam code and colour info. That would have defo helped with identifying codes and colours but with what I have here I have worked out the following:

Number stamped on shell / Colour Code / Yammy Fart number

767E / RED / 3LD-11416-60
5Z5J / GREEN / ?
5X5I / BROWN / ?
757D / YELLOW / ?

Unsure about the following due to faded colours:

1X1I / BLACK OR BLUE? / ?
262E / ?

Will fill in the blanks if I find more info. This allows me to cut out the stupid colour system as it does not work and even if it did Im colourblind. laugh.gif

In the bag of shells were 6 RED (2 new) which is at the extreme of the size spectrum (which way I'm not sure) and 2 very new looking Yellows. NONE of the calculated/standard sizes. sad.gif

Now onto the template SR made up. Bloomin marvelous. badgrock.gif Prolly took the poor burger hours but saved me (and potentially udders) hours...so I owe you...hours SR!!! Really magic and made a nightmare job very straightforward. Still a wee bit of sorting with bracketry/washers but that should be easy enough with old build pics and tings.

Next step: A bit of cleaning and inspection of the ccase halves and ccase bolts. Ordering of some parts and listing of missing bits (notice more bits every time I look at the crime scene). Scrounging of gasket paper.

No worries, it didn't take me too long to suss out the bolts.

Filled in some of the codes for the main bearing shells. They're listed in the 1992 parts file on page 4.

767E / RED / 3LD-11416-60
5Z5J / GREEN / 3LD-11416-30
5X5I / BROWN / 3LD-11416-20
757D / YELLOW / 3LD-11416-40
/ BLUE / 3LD-11416-00
/ BLACK / 3LD-11416-10
/ PINK / 3LD-11416-50

Pity about having to use plastigauge on the crank, at least you'll know which bolt actually fits, rather than just relying on my coin flip guesstimation.
Good luck with the 4henchicks crime scene investigation good.gif

Hey haffi,

The Tour de Treader and as a result lack of funding has slowed the slow progress.

Gasket paper has been scrounged and a very small amount of gasket making done, some listing of missing bits has been done but no parts yet. Also thinking of putting in a late mkII gearbox, there was one on ebay that was said to be out of a 1999 model but it sold before I got a chance to check out the injun number and see if it was earlier or later mkII. So waiting on a grr box opportunity too.
