The seller on ebay has a shop so is unlikely to sell out of box's, I would like to see a picture of what yours looks like amarko5 before I buy one.
right here goes, this is the plastic plate provided with the top box (with the plastic trim cover removed)
here you can see the placement of the plate on the rack, note how the slot at the rear of the rack falls above the two grabrail mounting screw (important). I removed the bike rack to do this and at first made the mistake of not dropping the mounting bolts for the rack into their holes and after fitting the plate (doh) realised i had to remove it again to drop the bolts in.
you will see that the position if the provided clamps means the box cannot move side to side as it the clamps are positioned so as to stop this. the two clamps at the rear then stop rearward movement as well.
look through the pictures and you will probably grasp what i am saying easier than explaining it in text. you will see if you look closely

the other clamps can be seen here

and here

this works with the monolock system with a provided plastic plate, i cannot speak for a monokey system or even the alloy plates. and the installation was carried out using only the supplied bits from the plate mount kit (apart from the matting)
hope this helps

EDIT: BTW this fitting does not involve drilling the existing rack and as such can go back to standard at anytime with little effort. and if you protect the existing rack with the matting it should be good as new when removed

Just to confirm this is the top box and base that you gave me a link to earlier in this thread?

indeed it is, a note though all the e450 boxes he sells are black

Yamama use the stock rack to mount a box on, so they feel its strong enough (albeit they charge you another 75 quid for a rac kto fit on the rack) givi only rate the rack you speak of to 5kg and like yamaha can generate more revenue by selling racks.
i have no doubt its a good bit of kit

P.S. is that not the type that broke on Dandy's latest tour ?

PS you're missing a rubber, stud.

Is this a new nickname, or one that's been around for a while?

No, it's a lesser-known quote from Mae West, in one of her rare "play it safe" moods.

Hotdiggety damn

Am going to order these Ortlieb Drybag Saddlebags from Aerostich. Everyone who uses 'em raves about 'em.

Good review of them from this Duc owner.

OK here it is. The company is German and called Bags-Connection they have two web sites English and German (the English server is playing silly buggers and will not load properly at the moment).
They also do a smaller Racepack as well.
These calamander.co.uk have UK prices for the full range but a poor webs site. Motohaus also has them.

They ARE quite expensive at full price (but see below), but are totally weatherproof (inner bags have tape-sealed seams) and have reviewed well. (Good expedition kit.) I guess the main merits are that the weight is carried fairly high but (because of the shape and stiffening) stably even at speed - I seem to recall their having been track-tested - and you don't commit the bike to any sort of scaffolding. The pannier sections have side access via hooded zips for access en route.

(Later) Just got an e-mail from M&P about their luggage sale, focused on these packs. Spooky - I must be psychic or something

Here's a photo of the Speedpack bits (not the ally platform!!). They all strap solidly together and to the bike

ok, the wingrack isnt esthetically appealing, but it is strong.
quality, strong, long lasting, if something goes bellyup you can buy every little piece. good warranty.
its been dropped on the cases, collided with a car while filtereing, one arm of the side rack broke and the case slid 10meters over the tarmac and ended up in the ditch. ducktaped the broken piece, hooked up the case (minor scratches) and we continued the journey.
i have had these cases since 1992 with the fullwingrack. i always have the topbox on. have replaced the lockslide and the topplate, the ancorpoints wear out. just have to add some padding between the topplate and the box to reduce vibrating coz after 100.000km the lockslide might otherwise wear out.
plus you can take your rack and put it on another bike mitst buying a few new pieces. i transferred my rack from teh 850 to the 9.
dont put heavy stuff in the topbox! its more for rainjackets, maps, extra gloves, stuff like that.
if you want to carry "luggage" best put it in sidecases and the heaviest stuff in a tankbag.
