The aussie one is light hearted, maybe that sticks in people's minds. The new Uk one is quite hard hitting... but does it work?
UK campaignthe first time I saw that it made my blood run cold, it was unexpected and it is the same thing that happened to my wife, luckily she recovered but it was close, now she is too afraid to ride her own bike anymore,
the trouble with people today is that they think driving is a right and not a priviledge that can be taken away, and there is too much in cars to distract the driver from looking properly, the drivers are too comfy, too warm, they feel really safe from everything, they talk on phones, fiddle with music systems, watch satellite screens, adjust all manner of electrically operated in car stuff like seats, windows, sunroofs, and when they do have an accident even if it is one that takes someones life, it is treated far too lightly.
if the message or thought is
'if I pull out at this junction without looking properly and have an accident my insurance will pay for it and I'll just get a few points on my licence whatever that means, but it's worth the risk rather than being late for work again'
it isn't going to have the same effect as
'if I pull out at this junction without looking properly and have an accident my insurance will pay for it but I could end up in jail, I'll lose my licence which means I'll lose my job and not be able to pay all my bills'
most drivers these days seem pre-focused on just pulling out at any oportunity into the smallest of gaps, regardless of whether they would only have to wait for just one vehicle to pass to get masses of room, people who exit slip roads onto dual carriageways or motorways seem to think they have the right of way over traffic already on the main road and just pull straight out, often without even looking,
and I expect some people know or think that no matter how badly they behave on the road everyone else around them will make allowances for them and if they get caught they'll probably just get off lightly with it and laugh about it to their mates,
if I thought I could get away with it there would be a lot of bloodied bodies of those arogant tossers draped over some vehicles.
