I know there are 10000's of thread but I have been through the knowledge base and found nothing specific to Renthals, I'm getting a new set for my Triumph (ultra Low) so my 'Superbike mediums' are going on the TDM. Just wondered if any 9er owners with Renthals fitted have handgaurds and what they used.

Cheers

Chris

I did, no problems at all unless you wanna use OEM bar ends, or any that screw in in fact, you will need to tap the bars to fit the ends

Or you can do what I did and use Motrax crash protectors. I'll post a pic later when I get on a pc and not the phone.

Is that Super Tennere guards? Where from and how much? Also do they interfere with the clutch at all?

I fitted DL650 ones and had to tap the bars for the bar ends that had to be machined as in knowledgebase, IMHO Ugly but very secure and effective.

I then fitted the S10 ones, the bar ends had to be drilled and tapped by monsieur Henty, then they fitted just fine. IMHO better looking than the Suzuki ones bar far less effective but still good to use

i used polisport bush guards with Renthals, no mods required as they fit into the end of the bars, and also have fixing clamps which i had to extend with a bit of steel

although trevini's looks better

Cheers, I'll stick with the DL gaurds then, function over form and all that. tongue.gif I just need to fine someone to borrow a tap off. laugh.gif

Re the Polisport guards, the purpose of mine is to keep the wind off my hands!

Re the Motrax ones do they add much vibration?

These bar ends are best done in the lathe, makes for a very accurate job, and keeps the thread properly concentric in the bar end. For 8mm thread drill 6.8mm hole.

I would only advise HSS taps as carbon steel ones are crap.

This guy is a good egg for taps and dies mainly german stuff.

http://www.max-t.co.uk/tapsDies.html

you want metric coarse M8 x 1.25 pitch. Best buy a 'second' tap as a good all rounder if just buying one, as you can't start a bottoming tap in the hole.

If you are still stuck or unsure, pop em post to me I'll do 'em for you, post em back.
