Hi Guys,

I've just fitted the Vario winglet to my Givi touring screen, thanks Landy, and although I have noticed a reduction in buffeting I'm still getting a lot of wind noise. I measured the legnth of the Givi screen and its 110mm longer than the standard mk2 screen. I know that most Carpedians who have fitted the winglets seem to have noticed a big improvement and I'm curious to know what sizes of screens you guys have fitted. doubtfull.gif doubtfull.gif

Johnny i've shoehorned it onto me stock short screen but i haven't properly tested it yet as the weather has been so bad. i also have a longer yamaha touring screen and an Ermax (or is a Nouvo screen?) that i may drill and experiment on.

spyball alarm/immob, bluespot brake calipers and Stainless hoses, Fournales air adjustable shock with Remote Resevoir, forks raised 10mm thru yokes, racetech linear fork springs in 15 wt oil, Kappa wingrack/luggage, heated grips, Kedo handguards, dual heat controller to power heated jacket liner and or pants!!, Stebel 136DB horn, K&N air filter, colour matched Baglux tank cover (magnetic tank bag modified to fit cover), osram +50% headloight bulbs, headlight protector,"NitramSpecial" parking loight, tail light indicators all running on LED's & incorporate "Lite Buddies", MK7 Scottoiler fitted, taller screen, 2-2 stainless steel CCC's, Devil stainless down pipes. MKI Renntec engine crash bars & sump guard.
engine changed july 2007 on a dyno run it made 79.1BHP / Torque 59.9Had a brief flirtation with a 1999 MKIIa but it blew an exaust valve on the M5 so was sold on to be repaired.

I have fitted mine, sort of, and still get buffetting. However it is alot better. At over 70mph when ding a life saver it was hell of a fookin job pulling my head back. Now its nice and smooth to do, but I get like a buffeting vibration if you see what I mean.

Still better with it though

Know what you mean Waspy. Not much buffeting on my chest or head but the wind noise is a mixture of roar and low frequency rumble. Dont feel my helmet being moved by the wind but at 75-80mph start to notice a little bit of double vision . Might be down to aerodynamics of the helmet huh.gif

Let me know how you get on with testing the standard screen, Wicky. Still thinking about drilling that one as well.

double vision, thats it !!! The vibration does make it seem like double vision. I'm looking at lifting the hole screen 2-3mm like some other thread has suggested and trying that as well.

My new SECDEM double bubble arrived a few days ago. It looks good and it's the best screen I've tried so far!
A lot less buffeting, almost nothing, and it keeps most of the wind under control, to put it that way...

it does work lifting it a few mm definately an improvment, still not perfect but does help good.gif

Well, I did this with the MRA db screen. But decided not to with this new SECDEM screen. And it feels a lot better, the wind protection improved and also less turbulence and buffeting. I guess it all depends on the screen; the shape, hight, width etc. etc.

Not sure if that will be enough for me Waspy, but let me know how you get on. If I duck down behind the screen then it's nice and quiet and calm but that's not practical. I reckon I would need a screen that's another 3 - 5cm taller. As I said my Givi screen is 110mm longer than the standard Mk2 but looking to find out what sizes others are using. Any info guys????

IIRC the Powerbronze was about the same height. I didn't get on with it. Weather protection was better but the noise was enough to persuade me to change back to standard blink.gif .
Red and black '96. Blue spot Thunderace calipers with braided two-line front hoses - 'kin brill. 17 incher out front. Renthal street/trail bars - vibe free. 1150GS brush guards. HIDs - niiiiice. Stebel Magnum - crikey. Nonfango hard luggage. Nexxus. SW-Motech center stand. Had a Powerbronze tall screen - too noisy - went back to standard.

Stealth Diamond Black 900 with lurvely black frame. GS brush guards. HotGrips on a relay - cos I keep forgetting. SW-Motech center stand and engine bars. LED rear light. Vario set to min. 17 incher. PR2s.

All now a fond (very fond) memory. Maybe again some day.

HI folks new on here. What to the best of my knowledge has not been mentioned is your heights cos being a short ass I had seat cut down and recon thats like having taller screen anyway add to that MRA with wnglet turned up and it seems to work real well from weather point of veiw, but got to say still noisy Hughie cool.gif

Welcome aboard Hughie. Good point about heights. I am 5' 10" usually blink.gif . The buffeting was not bad with the tall screen it was just that the noise was deafening. When I lifted my head all was calm cool.gif .

I agree that cutting the seat down should have a similar effect.

Thanks Jez got the screen cos a guy ran up to me and offered to sell cos he had sold bike and my standard one looked shabby MRA looks good too he warned me that like you about 5 10 and standard seat he too noticed alot of noise so working on the fact im about 5 7 thats like adding a few inches and lowering the seat a few more dont know how you will totally cure the prob cos I as I said still get wind noise unsure.gif

Hi Hughie,

I'm 5'11" and dont have a problem with the weather protection or buffeting with the taller screen, its just the noise coming off the screen that I'm finding hard to live with.

Got one of the first bunch and fitted it in a few minutes,no problem. Really like how it looks, but was it my imagination or was wind noise louder? Couple of weeks ago decided to test it out on a high speed run up to Hein-Gericke in Newry.
Got a miniature condenser microphone, mounted inside helmet, just where my ear is. Connected to my old mini-disc recorder.
Long straights on new motorway, winglet at different angles, same speed, different speed. Compared sound files on comp when I got home.
More turbulence and noise with wing up. Not too bad with it down flat.

Still on original screen, I can only ride with wing down flat. Tomorrow I hope to clear and re-shape that air slot at bottom of screen. Fit Loobman as well, If it does'nt piss down on me again.
