Removed me swing arm tonite to carry out a bit of respraying, and noticed the top spring, the black one is pretty much devoid of any paint. The shock itself seems to be in pretty good nick,so the question is what are my options? Can the aforementioned spring be removed and re-coated,or am i looking at sourcing another shock,is the shock rebuildable?Any recommends as where to get it rebuilt and how much am i looking at?

Why don't you just paint it? rolleyes.gif

I haven't found anyone who can rebuild one yet, due to it not having any method of recharging the nitrogen

I'm pretty sure you can get the springs off, but you're gonna need some mighty strong spring compressors to do so
Do you have any suspensions shops local to you?
If so, best bet is give it to them to get them springs off, have the springs powder coated (much tougher than paint) nad then let them re-assemble the springs

Rev's suspension services in Halesowen might be able to help, and he can get powder coating done as well, so it would be just one package to send off and returned freshly done.

There's a guy who stays just outside Glasgow who rebuilds the original shocks. His name is Hans and he used to work for the main Yamaha dealer in Glasgow, Ride On. He rebuilt the Hagon shock I got from Emmett. I'm sure he does mail order. Give him a call, his number is 0141 779 2335.

A Hagon shock is not the same as the OEM Yam shock

Yes, plenty of places will re-build a Hagon shock no trouble, but not the OEM Yam shock

I once had a Honda Dominator shock rebuilt by This guy. He put in a valve to recharge it. Did a good job and was way cheaper than buying a replacement.

Yes its John Gaskell of Rev's racing (as mentioned in my first post)
He's 10 miles away from me
He has told me he can't do the OEM Yam shock

If it still works properly why bother ? Start saving the pennies and when it gives up the ghost you'll have enough for a nice new one!

Or keep an eye on fleabay. I picked up a low miles shock off a mk2 with a nice shiny yellow spring for £50. Was unmarked and clean as a new whistle.

I'm sure Hans mentioned that he'd rebuilt a TDM shock when I spoke to him a while back.

Hans will rebuild a standard TDM shock. Sorry for any confusion caused by mentioning the Hagon unsure.gif

Like i said in me original post, the only thing that is really wrong is the top(black)spring has lost all its paint.Today i phoned a local motocross shop and they are going to take the springs off,i will get them recoated(i suppose powdercoat will be best?)then they are going to put the springs back on,but when the time comes i will probably go for a hagon or nitron. Thanks for all yer replies.

Yep did that, used part of a black oil container that i had kicking around then pop rivetted, it then sealed around it with silicon. The bottom pivot bush is fine, you can push it in and out with your finger. If you look at the bottom of the shock, just inside the adjuster there is a natural "reservoir"where water can collect so maybe thats whats happened.

ya i have tried moving that lower adjusting ring after soaking the fecking ting in Plusgas fer 2 weeks and it wouldn't budge a mm even when i took a hammer and drift to it.

spyball alarm/immob, bluespot brake calipers and Stainless hoses, Fournales air adjustable shock with Remote Resevoir, forks raised 10mm thru yokes, racetech linear fork springs in 15 wt oil, Kappa wingrack/luggage, heated grips, Kedo handguards, dual heat controller to power heated jacket liner and or pants!!, Stebel 136DB horn, K&N air filter, colour matched Baglux tank cover (magnetic tank bag modified to fit cover), osram +50% headloight bulbs, headlight protector,"NitramSpecial" parking loight, tail light indicators all running on LED's & incorporate "Lite Buddies", MK7 Scottoiler fitted, taller screen, 2-2 stainless steel CCC's, Devil stainless down pipes. MKI Renntec engine crash bars & sump guard.
engine changed july 2007 on a dyno run it made 79.1BHP / Torque 59.9Had a brief flirtation with a 1999 MKIIa but it blew an exaust valve on the M5 so was sold on to be repaired.

Rob the only advice i'd give ya is to pay the extra fer the optional remote preload adjuster.
