Having a bit of trouble with the rear brake light switch! The spring seems to have grown half an inch! Haha, Im currently sheltered from the rain, in the garage, on my knees trying to figure out what Ive done to make this happen!
Decided to fix the pedals on, as its too wet and cold to spray the tank! Although, the red is on and hard, masked up to take the black!

New one will only be pennies, or fit onto a screwdriver of the right diameter heat the spring up till it glows and then you can retighten the spring by pushing it together again but dont use your finger.

If the spring was off previously, check to make sure you're re-fitting a) the right spring and b) you're locating the spring in the right place.

Its twisted at the top, according to the manual, correctly and also according to the manual I am fitting it to the correct tang. The only thing I can think of, the master cylinder thread either too long or I havent adjusted it correctly.
Maybe the tang has bent up!? Ill take her off tomorrow and discover things.

Is the brake pedal in the same position as before ? Is there another item, a footpeg or a sideplate which normally stops the pedal traveling upwards too far ?

If you can't fettle the switch try one that works off the hydraulic pressure. It fits between the rear master cylinder output and the hose and saves pi**ing about with adjustments. OK, you've gotta bleed it! Not done it on a TDM but worked a dream on another bike.

It might not be crap, it might be the fuel levels needing adjusting.

Fuel levels are adjusted perfectly (I reckon ;-) ) I think Im going have to change the fuel filter, clean the carbs again. Last time it was a bit of silicone in the float valve! How that got there is beyond me!? Its fine, working on it is a doddle now, Ive done it that many times cause of crap getting stuck in them! Haha

Now, Ive changed the fork seals on this bugger twice since Ive had it. There are no pits on the forks, scuffs or any other type of damage. The fork seals only leak after its sat and not been ridden for a month or two.
The dust seals are a bit crap, and thats the only thing I can think of! The dust seals, allowing dirt and grime to get in and allowing oil to pass through the seals! Im going have to take them off again soon, to paint the legs, but is it worth changing the seals again? Always seems to happen on the right side.

If it's just dirt getting in then always try a seal cleaner first like a seal mate (or cut a piece of milk bottle to shape).

https://www.amazon.c...r/dp/B000HS4OFM

Out of stock at moment but ebay has them if you search, but easy enough to cut a thin piece of plastic to go around the seals and clean any muck out.  Have had success myself and known a few people where these worked and saved having to change seals.  If they are shot then there's no choice, but always worth trying with one of these first.

I was going to try that, with the milk bottle. Theres no water getting in, the oil coming out is clean and doesnt smell, so Im guessing its a good enough sign! Haha Ill give that a go, then order some oil and dust seals! If it still leaks, Ill get the whole lot and probably change the bushes on the stancions.

Did you fit oem oil seals Tom, if aftermarket ones the problem is well documented that they rarely work.

How are the bushes in the forks ?  If the upper bush is worn the stanchion tube can float about a bit within the seal and encourage  leaks

Also the toobs can wear... Linked to other things wearing....G had Yamaha fit beautiful new bushes and seals in his but they failed to notice the worn tubes = a complete waste of time and money.

Ill be able to tell if the tubes are worn by the chrome not being there, right?!? The bushes seemed fine, no play in them whatsoever! And as for the seals, they were not oem. I got them from a shop, local to me! Do we Moto provide oem seals?

It might not be crap, it might be the fuel levels needing adjusting.

Just had a quick clean and float height check, somehow the heights were different than I set before on the leaky carb. Why are you always correct?
