Riding round passes in the lakes will DEFFO NOT BE A LASH or A DASH laugh.gif

the very nature of the passes and the narrow lanes and high banks kinda preclude anyone who has one or 2 brain cells from trying to LASH around.

To be honest that's one of the reasons I fancy a run round the Scottish border on the Saturday, much less traffic yahoo.gif

Hartside,

Im looking at your route around the lake, and know most of the passes you describe. . .but you've foxed me with "red bank" and "side gates".

I think "red bank" is the road to the SW of Grasmere ??, but cant find "side gates" anywhere !!! can you give me a clue help.gif

Have you ridden Newlands pass before, is it worth considering ??

Found this good web site - http://www.visitcumbria.com/roads.htm

Cheers
Daz

as your traveling west to east on wrynose near the end of wrynose there is a road to the north (takes you to as tarn) then there is a nice drop into a valley most people never see and it runs round to the rad at the back of grasmere.

i have ridden to the tarn on loadsa occasions but never done the full sidegates and likewise with red bank.

Thanks for that, I was looking to far east, near Ambleside. I know this road, did'nt realise it was called "side gates" , i've camped in the next valley "great langdale" many times. if you go that way then you need to stop and have a quick half in the "old dungeon ghyll" pub.

cheers

Feck sake Wicky , I'm in the same boat and also considering pulling out. I just don't have the cash for petrol and dinner and drinks over the 2 nights. The budget is well and truly screwed this month and next due to a few unforseen bills. sad.gif

If I do pull out I'll still come down on the Saturday morning to meet up with Hartside for the Lakes run out. Then I'll head back up the road.

Watch this space for a decision nearer the time.

Hi guys,

I have been watching this thread and will be there, just not sure if it will be camping or a day run as i live quite close.

I quite fancy the cake run, being short of stature, the passes don't really appeal (short legs and nasty cambers= falloff should there be a need to stop, at least in my case), and look forward to meeting you all.

I've just put Hexham , Penrith and Kendal into Metcheck. Not great like last year but not the worst. Cloudy but dry on Friday , cloudy with intermitent rain on Saturday. But it wont be warm , average temp 13 degrees.

Take the waterproofs and some warm gear.

Would you not think of just camping saturday night only??Its only £5 per night, could save you a few pounds.

I've already paid for the bunkhouse , that's not a problem . It's the social side of things. Dinner & drinks etc.

I'll maybe head down early on Saturday to Bellingham , then I've just the one evenings entertainment to cover !
