Hi Ian,  yes i did that and it worked on one carb.  I am carefully inducing some heat to each bolt head using a gas powered soldering iron which has helped too but i am struggling with the other carb. but will try again this morning.  *safety goggles worn and a foire extinguisher at the ready!     I do wonder if i simply refit the carbs without completely disassembling them and use the carb. cleaner as directed on the instructions would i 'luck out' and they'd start working as normal after a bit?!  Maybe maybe not is the answer. I have a spare set of 1999 MK2a carbs side be side and there are some slight differences in the castings (minute differences though)

I cleaned the needle as that was a bit gummed up and i inspected it using a magnifying glass and there appears to be extremely little or no wear atall atall.  The diaphram i removed looks mint too.

Hi Ken, if you can get the float bowl screws out you'll have access to most of the carb internals. Try not to use anything to hit the screws as the carb casting can break real easy. If not then try refitting and using the carb cleaner perhaps ?  mk2 and mk2a carbs use a different airbox as the mk2a's inlets are wider.

Dusted off and washed my bike today. :)

Wickers ya mate Aircooled had great success using Seafoam on his stuck carbs, he put the whole bottle through the tank and left it to soak a few days.

Ok I've been messing about with carbs and coils / HT leads today. I had previously fitted Magnecor HT leads and new coils. I used a combination of self amalgamating tape and also shrouded the new leads with heat shrink as a belt and braces approach. Ironically the heat shrink gave up and cracked after several years so I removed it and used Plasti dip instead as it's longer lasting. It's hard to see but the heat shrink has crumbled away where the lead disappears behind that rusty bracket.

Added mirror extenders to the TDM in an attempt to reduce buffeting.  Bought the extenders off ebay, reasonable price and simple to install.

I'll give them a test later in the week.

Ok I dipped the coils and leads twice more so thas 3 coatings of liquid rubber. These are the S&M rubber clad specials which would be at home on a 900.

MOT FAIL yesterday and immediate PASS.

FAIL = Front tyre valve split (funny cos it was OK when I inspected them both last week at tyre inflation - maybe it was the tester bending it through 90 degrees wot showed the split up ahem ahem (not done to the Scottoil infested rear valve??? )). Anyway, valve is split = no ride away = no argue room available - supplied & fitted new valve for £5 and PASS acquired. BTW valve was just over 2 years old and fitted by...........the test station.

  Not sure he'd make a fortune breaking and repairing air valves, sounds more like a clumsy, hamfisted tester.

removed all the fuses out of the fuse box,  disconnected all the block connectors  the reside beneath the airbox,  cleaned them all out using brake cleaner and blew them dry with the air lion, applied dielectric grease to each and and reassembled.  This helps prevent corrosion.

converted the Kappa Wing rack back to Mono Key as it was Mono Lock for years,  this i have done so i can use my new Givi E21 panniers rather than the bigger and unnecessary very old larger Mono Lock panniers that must be 38 liters each.

MonoKey mounts in position with the older Mono Lock one next to it for reference.
