I thought of this idea,my offroader has a two stroke autolube oil tank,on top is a switch operated by a float and wondered if it would be possible to use this system on the 4TX oil tank so when oil is low the dash light comes on as it does when the two stoke oil tank is low.Problem was the oil level switch is about 4"long but came across these and there a lot shorter.Of course it would mean drilling a diam hole in top of tank but seeing as it is a tight rubber seal i wondered if it could possibly work http://www.chingtsan...ycle-parts.html

How are to going to be sure the oil tank is free of swarf from the cutting ? A cone cutter would do the job if you went slow.

BTW anyone making up a switch adapter for this must ensure it has a cross drilling or you will block off the oil supply. Also, as this is after the filter, it must be absolutely clean. A bit of swarf here would be instant death to the engine.

If you want the ultimate and can find a non moving place to mount the gauge, you can use one of these and have a oil pressure light and a gauge for the ultimate TDM. Just screw on the adapter.

The 4TX oil tank top cover comes off, with the gasket below the sight glass for the oil level check

Ok Guys here it is.

The Intermotor 50770 Switch modified to go in an 850. Two 10mm copper washers complete the job. Hammerman is the lucky guy selected from a host of applicants to test it. rolleyes.gif

Here are the photos hope it all works.

Beautiful job! This is just what I spent hours searching for, for my 850, without any luck!

I'd like to do this mod on my '08 900.

Hi Guys

If successful does this mean it will be avaiable for general 850 consumption? Also will hammerman be doing an oil switch installation for dummies guide complete with photos as penance for being the 'chosen one'?

Ah hang on a minute,

900's are a very different kettle of fish due to the oil tank clearance above the banjo. To do it on one of those will take some development of a brass horizontal port adapter, much more difficult. Watch this space though....

I am happy to mod 50770 switches and supply the two copper washers to fit it for 850's, for a nominal fee.
Can we all please wait until Hammerman has proved the mod works, then I will make available for general consumption as a mod service.

We must get the design right first. This switch mod is the cheapest option, the next up is a brass adapter. I suggest you all scour ebay for the 50770 switches.
900 boys will have to wait a bit until I have developed one for my 900.

I would think it a fair price for Hammerman to do a photo installation guide. The 10mm copper wide section washers are a bit rare but I have 100 so far. So we can do about 50 to begin with if it all works ok.

Having looked around for the 50770 switches, my Intermotor contact says they are obsoleteo, so I am going to make adapters in brass to fit a VW sensor as per the JBX TDM site drawings. BTW I have posted a comment with piccy links on there also.

If anyone can find the 50770 switches, I can still mod them. The prototype should be with Hammerman by Monday or Tuesday. He will no doubt be eager to try it out.

I am having a go at the 900 version this weekend.

The 900 is a no go for the bottom banjo. Can't get the double banjo bolt in. Going for the banjo on the back of the cylinder head for this next. Sorry 900 boy's it's going to take some time.

I have made up some brass adapters as per the JBX TDM drawings. This for 850's ONLY. If any one wants one PM me for costs and delivery.

I also have five of the citroen LNA switches coming to be adapted as previously posted. Again PM me for costs and delivery. These switches are difficult to get at reasonable prices. I bought all the supplier had at the time. BTW I have figured out how the image thing works now.

The Citroen modified switch,

I have modified Citroen switches for sale in the FOR Sale section, Brass adapters are waiting for a VW sensor to appear from the clutches of Royal Mail.

OK folks,

Lee has done the switch so here's my photos of the wiring (Just needs switch installing now - it should arrive soon)

http://www.flickr.co...s/47339542@N08/

I'll do a proper write up in the week when I get time

Basically on the TDM 850 3VD, you tap the brown wire going to the temperature gauge as this comes straight from the fusebox, The warning lamp is then earthed through the oil pressure switch.

Great job on this one Lee

thanks

ps the warning lamps was one of these

http://www.vehicle-w...photo/l1260.jpg

http://www.vehicle-w...rninglights.php

I just removed the chrome bezel, and cut it down to make it into a filter for a bulb behind it (the bulb in the lamp as it is, is not replaceable)

I have been burning the midnight oils and have found the following.
The only types of M12 banjo sensors that can be modified are Intermotor 50770 (Citroen LNA 0.7) or Intermotor 50910 (Citroen Axel 1.1) ONLY. There are no other ones in the world. No other sensors have a fitting long enough to modify. Both of these are obselete.

For the brass adapter well near anything, provided it is switch normally closed, but those which fit the M 10 x 1 brass adapter are:

Intermotor 50660 (Landrover 110)

Intermotor 50760 (might be obselete)

VW part no 056 919 081

Volvo 1257137

Porsche 911 606 230 00

Aprilia sensor as per the JBX TDM drawing.

If we can't get those then its a big re-think on the adapter.

Anyone measured oil pressure at that point - where oil pressure switch is mounted?
At idle with hot oil.
