360° between cylinders on the 3VD.
270° on the 4TX.

A full engine cycle is 720° on a four stroke engine.

Seek no further:

I just took of the top of my mk II. The valve stems were stif and britle, and the hole for the stem was quite a bit lager than the stem. So oil is sucked down via the inlet valves, as there is a vacuum in the intake. I suppose some years of the the TDM had some bad batches of seals. Anyway, mine doesn't use oil now. Did a valve job and a hone at the same time, but the valve stem seals were deffinately the culprit.

Doin valve clearances? Use dappers valve shim exchange program and the job will be carroty - Free (other than you postin me yer shims) for sporting members.
