Well there's plenty of OHP material left if anyone needs me to cut them a replacement. 24 hour turnaround - no charge.

As I said, I've got a 4 inch square bit soaking in petrol. I'll check on it ever few days and report back if there is any problems with it.

Just a quick update - the OHP material has been submerged in petrol for a week and today it looks none the worse for wear...AND.....the TDM fired up first turn!

Update 2: The OHP material has been soaking for weeks now with no detrimental effects and the bike started second push of the button yesterday. As the tank and the plastic is off, I'm keen to sort out the occasional backfire through the carb and look at the slight smokeyness. I'm guessing it would benefit from a new set of emulsions tubes.

My carbs are off and on the bench and the various retaining screws are soaking in WD40. I've just ordered new inlet rubbers (the old ones look ok, but I guess they must be due for replacement).

My airbox, as previously mentioned, has the age old problem of poorly fitting rubbers - in that they slide of the carbs as soon as you tighten the clips up. I looked at Daps crafty solution, but in the end I just used a bungee to hold the airbox down on to the carbs - which works fine, but I'm looking for a more permanent solution. Has anyone tried individual sports filters? Do they wreck the power delivery? My bike is on standard pipes.

Cheers

You could buy some new airbox to carb rubbers Snorv. I think TonyD tried pods on his mk1 and couldn't get the carbs dialled in with 'em. unsure.gif

Remember to tweak tight the casing bolts before you undo them if they haven't been undone for a while.

Great news about the pumpitpumpitpumpit mod ! good.gif

Nice one Daps. The OHP material has outlasted the petrol as it's all evaporated now. Still, it was submerged in there for a month at least with no ill effects.

I still haven't got around to the carbs - but I will....:-)

Are you thinking about making new flap valves maybe? doubtfull.gif

I tested my pump this morning and it looks as though the internal flap valves have given up.

Applied petrol to the inlet and it poured straight out of the output pipe.

Think the mkI and mkII pumps have different inards but oi have a mkII pump on me mkI. One of the hoses was a different bore but other than that it seems to work.

Rich posted a thread about new pumps for the mkI, about £50 squiddlers all in.

The Snorv pump is fitted and tested. Haven't combustifried yet. badgrock.gif

This is an excellent diagnostic test if noubt else. Tested at mid/low and high fool levels. As suspected, my £5 mkII pump what I bought off Nikko years ago is fine. No dramatic difference atwix that and the now rejuvinated mkI pump. The only thing I detected was that the Snorv pump had less of a cough than normal atwix main to reserve switch. Might have just been coincidence.

Nice one Snorv.

I went back to the petrol jug yesterday to find nothing in it apart from petrol residue. I can't remember if I took the piece of acetate out.

I think I did.

I certainly hope so.....gulp!

Is yours still working ok Dap? My new airbox rubbers are coming in the post this week from Wemoto, so I can't test my pump at the moment.

As a matter of interest, I take it my bike is meant to have different sized holes for the fuel pump outlet and the carb fuel inlet?

I ordered a new fuel filter from Wemoto and it is 5/16s (8mm?) at both ends - which is the right size of hole for the carb, but bigger than the fuel pump outlet.

This is f****** annoying / just one of those quirky TMD things* I guess.
