They mount either so the support goes under or over the bars so you can adjust for the levers but they don't go anywhere near the mirrors.................

I got no problem with cold hands though, the heated daytona grips work great in combination with my new Held Raindrop gloves which have the new Goretex X-Trafit, where the goretex liner, glove liner and glove are all one layer. So no stuffed liner in the fingertips, no problems with wet hands and better breathing abilities. And perfect in combination with heated grips. Handguards are a nice addition to make it more efficient on the outside in real cold weather though, so I'm gonna be looking for the best Cycra supplier.

The Polisport from South Coast Racing seem nice and realistically priced at £12.76... well they seemed reasonable, until I found out that's just for one and excl VAT (30 quid for a pair + P&P)

I quite like the ones on my Honda Africa Twin; they probably cost a fortune when bought from the friendly Honda dealer but interesting to see if they'd be easy to fit on the TDM, maybe I can find a pair of used ones. The V-Strom ones seem interesting too, do they come in black? At £22 I wouldn't mind trying those out, however, I remember the SV1000 has got a hydro-clutch, if the Strom got one as well, they may not fit very well?
BTW: The Africa Twin protectors are a lot bigger than MTX-styled brush protectors but their effect is still not more than modest (wearing BMW Atlantis II Gore-tex jobbies, but hands still get very cold). So if it's protection against wind & rain you're after, don't bother with those motocross types, you need quite big ones for noticeable effect.

Hi I'm new in this news group, trying to get hang of it. I have bought the BMW hangaurds to fit to my TDM900 but I seem to have to twist the clamp at one end of the handgaurds a lot, is this ok or am I doing something wrong.
All help appreciated

No you're not. They have to be really bent over - the easiest is to clamp the guard inboard then bend over to attach to the bar end (I assume you've drilled and tapped that in anticipation!?).
Here are my photos...

I had the heated grips fitted this morn (cyclone) and did 130mile trip to sus them out. They get colder after about 30 mins though.. More questions I know, sorry..
. But besides that, do you feel you get a good benefit from the guards, as they are now, box standard.
I had some panels made by my pattern maker for the XS250 I was rebuilding as parts had been damaged and even lost. I was thinking of getting the BMW hand guards and modifying to increase the protection and having him make me a pair.. The reason I say this is that a bloke turned up at biker pub at Selby and he’d..She even.. (Cause I couldn’t find the bugger before I left)..Had riveted extra flaps around the guards. Looked tacky but did it do it for him/her ??
It wouldn’t cost me but then again I don’t want to be wasting the pattern makers time in a pointless exercise.
What do you think??

The beemer ones really do offer the best wind protection other than 'muffs'.

Bite the bullet, fit and forget.

had a good look at the 1000 while i was there and it would seem there will not be much in the way of problems fitting the kit.
having said that it may entirely be a waste of 23 quid but i will keep you informed when i get them expected 5th or 6th jan
the reason i steered away from the BMW ones is the fact i have Renthall bars with a brace and where all your pictures show the clamps fitting is exactly where the brace fits. (+ i am tightfisted )

I also like the style of the Vstrom ones

Not sure if the 1000 has a hydraulic clutch and the 650 not and therefore may have an extra bit of plastic on the left one? But even so, it won't make much difference keeping your hands from freezing off.

Looking forward to your experiences

In return, I will start replacing my cam-chain in a few weeks, so I may have some tips & information to share too (and maybe engine-remains as well if I find out the hard way
