Now that is interesting.  You get a bit of extra width with that screen.  So how does it perform?

It's pretty good. I tried it out today on the motorway at up to 80mph (indicated). No buffeting and virtually no wind force on the noggin. I tried riding with my visor up but the wind blew it back down. It seems to be a little too turbulent for it to stay up. I might try angling it back a little to allow more airflow between the two screens and see if it is any better.

There are so many variables it could be an endless task trying to find the ideal solution.

Thought I'd keep you up to date with the latest incarnation of my screen mods  Basically I've piggy backed the touring screen on top of the standard screen.  I think it looks neater than the previous version.

It's good but it's not perfect.  I rode for about 40 miles this afternoon, mostly without earplugs.  There is still wind noise but it's a bit like you get in a car with the window half way open rather than the damaging roar of the standard screen.  The noise doesn't increase much from 40 to 80 mph.  The best thing is that insects are deflected over my visor.  I picked up a few on the top of my helmet and plenty on the front of the bike but the visor stayed clear. I think this is about as good as I will get with the MRA touring screen.  It's a bit narrow at the top so wind gets round it and hits the sides of the helmet.  I'd like to try this set-up with the Yam touring screen which I think is a bit wider.  Anyone want to give it a go?

On a related topic, I rode a Honda NC750X a couple of weeks ago.  They clearly gave some thought to the aerodynamics of it.  A tiny little screen but quite good protection from the wind and no buffeting so relatively quiet.  If only Mr Yamaha had had a wind tunnel when he designed the TDM.

I have my penny worth to say that at 6'4" & proportionately (length legs, back, etc.), I have explored the aero options that was otherwise ruining an excellent motorbike. I originally bought the 9er with a taller touring screen & with a Palmer Products spacer bracket; there was a slight advantage, but I was still buffeted somewhat. I then took an immense leap of faith & fitted a standard screen to the Palmer (furthest rearward, most vertical setting) & my ride is transformed! I can hear the beautiful engine at speed. The air is 'spread' evenly over my chest & helmet with minimal buffeting at any speed- obviously it gets slightly worse the faster you go, but I'm no longer 'bobble-heading' when I ride & there is an added bonus that I no longer need to wear earplugs. I also sprung for the additional Sat-Nav bar & I have fitted my Garmin without any issue... :good:

I've got a Yam touring screen in the shed that I was thinking about trying in a similar setup to you.

If it's sensible to post up to you am happy for you to "test it out"

Will get some prices and PM you if the costs aren't mortgage worthy...
