Thanks for the answer !
To my knowledge there is not compliance on OBD II on bikes.
However some brands put OBD connectors on their bikes (Ducati / BMW...).
Jap bikes do not use the CAN bus protocol, they only use the K-Line (1 wire + ground).
To get access to it on the TDM900, there is nothing except the wire between the ECU and the dash to send & receive data.
The blanked connectors (there is another one beside the ECU) you quoted are common grounding for the sensors.
I'm not sure the data may be easily changed because bike manufacturers use their own codes to get access afaik...
There is also the problem with the CRC which may brick the ECU !
New EU regs are forcing OBD2 compliance on all new bikes....can't remember which MY it starts at....2020 ? Due to come in with Euro 5 emmissions standard anyway. Not before time too i have to say. Custom fault diagnosis equipment used by dealers gives them the deserved nickname of 'stealers' IMHO !
I think the 2016 regs are for compulsory OBD (version 1, basic) , with compliance expected by 2017
CRC generators are easy to find, the disassembly software usually figures out the CRC method when you list the HEX.. From what I've seen before anyway.
Can't he get his own!
Now that's funny !
Worth calling him anyway

Worth talking to Geoff at Hilltop - he's a genius at re-mapping
Does work for several BSB teams - if he tells you he can do it, he can ...........he's a software wizard & reverse engineers ECU mapping ....I'll let him tell you how he learnt his trade !
Give yourself plenty of time to talk though - he can talk ..........proper enthusiast

I would take the bike to a VW-dealer. They're renowned for being extremely creative when it comes to car firmware.

I see a few other manufacturers are being scrutinised, and the better ones seem to have just hid it better

They've all been at it IMO - the bureaucrats fixed the limits so they're impossible to attain without "creative tuning". I reckon the shit was about to hit the fan and VW opened up to the world. It's been an open secret for about for over 5 years in the Trade

Well after a bit of research and visiting the Hilltop site, I certainly won't be getting a Power Commander without seeing what Geoff can do first.

I've checked my K-Line reader and it seems to be working, and I've downloaded a version of Yamaha ECU software reader.......but I need to take the bike for it's MOT tomorrow so it has to be running tomorrow..... otherwise i would have chanced reading from the ECU it tonight
I'll maybe give it a go tomorrow afternoon or Sunday

Went down to Hilltop today and saw Geoff, And after spending a few hours chatting while he worked on some chaps race BMW, I decided to book the bike in for his remapping services. Needless to say he isn't impressed by Power Commanders. Considering the difference in price I'm very happy to see what he can do with the bike. So March 2nd the bike gets done. I shall inform all of the differences I experience!
Oh and price is £360 for his ECU remapping. Lol he said he'd service it as well, but if it had been a Mk 2 it could fook off!!

It might be a bit steep, but it beats the £580 I was quoted for a Power Commander fitted. And I'm never selling this bike so I don't mind going a bit OTT with getting it just how I want it. Any way his price isn't quite written in stone.

Is the remap done on a dyno? When I had my lightly tuned 900, I changed the CCC silencers for Akras, I had the Power Commander remapped on a dyno (the same dyno company set up the engine for the CCC cans) and the map difference was massive. The 10 bhp increase at 5000 rpm was good though

My GSA went up by 12 bhp .....doesn't really go faster, but pulls like a train right up to the red line, & no more flat spots.
vibration is noticeably down as well
