It was the shock that helps! try it before using the allen drive next time, but torx is a good back up if you need it! :good: I used to work on Mercedes cars and they were littered with the bastid things......but with it came experience and how to deal with them!

By the way: whats with the whole labyrinth of bits, things and stuff onder the breatherpipe, between the two spark plugs. 

 

It almost seeems that there are a pair of spring acuated valves there. Maybe there to prevent air going the wrong direction?

The bits are, as fixitsan says, part of the air inlet to the exhaust to dilute excess hydrocarbons. The reed valves make it one-way into the exhaust from the airbox.

Experience of similar items on Honda VFRs shows that if they are dirty they can be held open by crud and allow blow-back into the airbox and thus affect the running of the engine.

So, take the bits out and clean them so the reed works properly. Make sure on reassembly that the rubber seal is properly seated.
