I am not knowledgeable enough in these things to suggest options to them. But the way the world is it appears it is cheeper to replace than repair these days - simply based on the labour involved.

Last used him in in late nineties - £25 for an alternator rewind.
He's done 4 for me in total.
He works from home and is normally less than half price of people like Electrex etc, who at the time wanted over £50 for the same job
Dunno if he is still trading but the numbers there if anyone needs it

Also noticed chain sagging a bit. First chain and sprocket set at 30K, so hope it lasts till 60K. But once it started last time, it went fast. Hope it lasts for another 3/4 K for the RTT.
Once they start, it means ther is no grease left inside the chain, and coz of the O-rings, spray on lube does not penetrate.
You'll be lucky to get 3K out of it
