My own insurance is due in 2 weeks. I've been with Nash since they set up over here. I just wondered what anyone else is paying CN . I'm 50 , 30+ yrs and never a claim. Full licence since '82, Star rider up to Gold. Solid garage.
They're quoting €305 for TPFT, roughly £200 sterling

I'm with carole nash.
I'm age 41, 6 years no claims. They've put me with Equity Red star, 250 excess. With legal and breakdown cover.

Yeah anyway TPFT £150, or Fully Comp. £250. So make your mind up from that.

I do know that i'm in a pretty good post code. smile.gif

on the subject of carole nash
i work for a small bike repairers in manchester, one of carole nash's leeches (also known as rep's) arrived one day and asked if she could leave some buisness cards for customers to ring and get quotes.
all was going well, we would give the cards to any one asking about insurance on the bikes we had sold them, until the bosses mate rang for a quote,a few days later he received a phone call from carole nash asking him how they could service his bike for him and they would pick it up and deliver it back free of charge ( no wonder they can't pick up broken down bikes). needless to say the boss was a bit pisted at this and next time she came he told her where the cards would best fit.
what ever you think of dealers you have to admit this is a real snide move.

I have been with Carol's Gash for the past three years but they just weren't competitive at this year's renewal time. Their telephone attitude was also pants. Also, I had a chance to use their 'recovery' service last year after a puncture. I managed to get to work and they said that they'd only recover me to a garage, not home. This was on a Sunday. blink.gif So I unleashed the can of Tyreweld and rode home and then to Micheldever Tyres the next morning. Bollox to them - that put me off, too.

To anyone who's in the IAM, I'd recommend Adelaide Insurance who do deals for members... They promise to at least match any cover and beat the price by 5% so I fed them the Carole Nash renewal and they did just that but with a lower excess and business use too (which is actually quite handy for me as I do use the bike between sites, sometimes carrying work equipment).

34 years old, riding for 13 years
9 years no claims, protected
IAM member
'99 TDM (insured for 2k5)
not garaged (on drive)
Fully Comp, with business use (standard with Adelaide for IAM members, in case of doing observed rides, which I don't)
Southampton postcode
Legal protection.
£150 XS
Breakdown cover (untested so not sure how good!)
Foreign Use
£130ish all in (from memory)

As well as learning a lot, the £85 it cost to become an IAM member will pay for itself in insurance premium reductions in around 3 years. wink.gif

I went on line with Direct Choice and have a fully comp policy with Equity Red Star including No Claims Protection for £101.02 including tax.

£250 excess and agreement to keep it in a locked garage when at home. Not covered for any act of terrorism though !

When I had an accident in 2005 they were really helpful so I've stuck with them. May be worth a try. good.gif

Hmmmmm

I shall be the voice in the wilderness blink.gif

been with Carol Nash for last 3 years

Minor accident 2 yr ago, sorted in couple months, CN operators helpful & courteous, had brief on phone inside of 48hrs after prang.

This lastest get off I got assigned person dealing with my claim

brief on phone inside 48hrs of lodging claim, bloody helpful, no rush conversation re accident etc etc

Bike was recovered to my house inside of 2hrs from placing call

Documents have arrived from them in general within 2 days

Emailed them on a sunday re my last minute trip to Germany 3 weeks ago (yes yes yes I've still got to post that up, pics & all !!) & insurance cover

Had reply by midday Monday

To be honest I could shop around for cheaper premium but the service I have had from them has been bloody good

I havn't had to use their breakdown recovery service (..yet!) so the comments about that re European travel are a concern

Shopping around has failed to get me a 'significant' reduction in premium, and to be honest I don't want to have to deal with people purely via email as I feel I may have to with some of the 'cheaper' premium companies.

I lost my no claims when I had 3 yrs off road bikes and didn't buy and insure a little 125 or something to maintain my no claims, my bad

However I was dirt riding instead over that time laugh.gif

What really REALLY REALLY got my goat was that on returnig to road bikes at 3 years 'off' ALL the insurance companies assume I was a beginner, regardless of previous 20yrs riding experience and I had to start from scratch (one 'operator' informed me that any experience past the last three years was irrelevant as regards insurance)

I live and learn

For the moment I'm going to give Carol Nash a thumbs up, and based on my experiences so far they'll be getting my business tup.gif tup.gif

I've just reinsured for £97 fully comp through the Policy Shop. Bike is garaged in sleepy sussex which must help.

The original quote was around £120 and included £20 ish for "legal protection". I have this on all my insurances and never thought whether or not I was covered elsewhere. So I called Privilege who do my car, they said "no, you're only covered for your car, but try your house insurance as their legal protection cover is often wider".

Sure enough, my House insurance said "Yes, our legal cover which you're paying for covers all your houshold in any car they're in"....Brilliant. So with 2 cars and a bike that's saved about £70. Privilege even refunded me £21 as I'd only just renewed.

I started with Bennett's when I had the Transalp, but they claimed I had to start a new policy when I moved to the TDM mid-year, so I'd lose 6 months no-claims record! They blamed this on Red Star. So I transferred to Carole Nash, but I'm considering another change because of this thread and others on CN - eBike sounds good, but is this at the expense of their being difficult when it comes to claims?

huh.gif Interesting. I'm also with Bennetts-Red Star, and when I swapped from the SV to the TDM, it was very easy. I only had to pay the difference and the total cost was much cheaper than a new policy (with a higher excess), despite the existing one being just a month old.

BTW, how come the TDM is quite a lot dearer to insure than a SV? I know it's more powerful, but it would hardly be called the sportier of the two. I would have expected the SV to be the higher risk bike for a young fella like me. rolleyes.gif

Carole Nash was sold to Groupama UK around jan 2007 . seems they are now only into the standard safe rider type insurance, they have also pulled out of most of the sponsorship that carole used to do

These robbing barstewards will no longer get my custom at renewal time.

Fitting a private plate and then complain about the wasting of money rotflmmfao.gif

Carole Nash were very helpful, quick and pushy to get a more than generous compensation when a lorry reversed into me and (obviously) suffered damage (not the lorry I mean). They also arranged full recovery when my fecking Africa Twin burnt out its fuel pump somewhere in the middle of Italy.

I don't know if Carole Nash are the cheapest-of-the-cheapest (I pay around £185 for a Buell, TDM and XT600 3rd party / theft) but having had this level of service I can't be bothered to phone half the world seeing if I can save the odd tenner each year.
