Seeing as yesterdays Berkshire meet managed a pretty good turnout I'm thinking we should arrange another southern meet at some point, and how about doing it with a rideout?

I was thinking Alton Station cafe (biker friendly greasy spoon, not open Sundays though) would make a good meeting point as there's some great rounds around there. As a first stab I've had a quick play on Autoroute and came up with this route which is about 70 miles with a mix roads, starting with breakfast/coffee at the cafe and ending at the Lord Derby pub in Odiham. Leg 4-5 is based on a stretch Cavey said was good from M3-J10 to Corehampton, so please correct me if I've got the wrong bit, I'm using the road that goes through Morestead to Corehampton. Leg 6-8 is just to avoid the A3, I can nip down there for a recce one weekend and see what it's like.

Any suggestions on distance (is that too far, or would longer be better) and other roads? I'm thinking maybe March/April time but don't want to be too close to the East Anglia meet and I'm sure some of you can't get let out 2 weekends running. I know several locals work a fair few weekends so when can the awkward ones manage?

If I haven't missed it, put me down for the meet. Ta

I'm thinking probably hit Lasham around 10:00 ish to see what it's like and then probably have a blast around my route, don't know all the roads so should look at them before getting a large gathering. Drop me a line when you get to the Meon Hut, if I'm nearby I'll join you for a coffee.

Anyone else fancy joining me for a recce on Sunday morning?

Been out for a recce this morning. Lasham gliding club does indeed have a nice cafe/restaurant who don't have a problem with a bunch of bikers turning up on a Sunday morning, but they stop serving breakfast at 10:00. I'm thinking the Avenue Nurseries garden centre down the road might be a better bet, thier cafe looks a reasonable size and does a fryup for about £3.50 until 11:30. East to find too as both ends of that road are clearly marked from the main roads.

My current route plan looks like this

Attached File  Alton_2.jpg   126.9KB   20 downloads

The first leg (1-15) is 54 miles and took me about an hour this morning. Section 5-6 does get a bit of gravel in the road in places. 11-14 was Cavey's suggestion and I was starting to wonder about him at the start, dead straight road for a mile, 90 degree bend, then another big long straight blink.gif , but then it starts getting twistier and is a lovely ride, thanks for that one Cavey good.gif That takes us to West Meon (15) where there's a biker friendly cafe and a petrol station. From there it's about 25 miles and probably 30 mins back to the start point, including a section of proper TDM country (16-19) up some single track roads.

My original idea was to have both legs about an hour, but have decided against heading North towards Hook from Alton as there's a very long 50 limit and too much traffic which would ruin the end of a nice ride. If previous gatherings are anything to go by breakfast, coffee and generall chinwagging are likely to take plenty of time so a 10:00 am meetup (fryup) would probably see us back at the cafe around 13:00.

Next question is when. Catsbum and Cavey are the awkward buggers, but from the dates Catsbum posted before it looks like March is good for him. Which Sundays in March can you make Cavey?

I'm holding back on this one coz march is very busy for me (lots of weekend work and family stuff). However, did much of this route today (Mon 25/2) as I had a day off. The roads were really quiet and the weather great...thought I'd gone to heaven banana.gif
Now on 9er number 2 .....

Apologies for being a slacker and not sorting something sooner, unfortunatly I've been...er...no, not really got an excuses, I'm just a lazy bastad.

Plan is -
Date: Sunday 20 April 08
Time: 10:00
Meet point: Avenue Nurseries, Lasham, GU34 5SY. Map, 51.188812N 1.006279W for the techno-junkies. Very easy to find, Avenue road is signposted to Lasham Gliding Club from the western end (A339 Basingstoke - Alton), and the eastern end (B3349 Odiham - Alton) is a crossroads at the Golden Pot pub.

Plan is breakfast (or a coffee for those on a diet) in the garden centre cafe, ride for about an hour to a coffee stop at the very busy biker friendly Loomies cafe at West Meon, and another half hour back to the garden centre where we started for another coffee (can never have too much coffee!).

Lasham to West Meon is 54 miles and there a petrol station next to the cafe at west Meon so it's probably easiest if we aim to have enough fuel at the start for the first leg.

1992 Mk1, 76k miles, Hagon springs, MTC exhaust, 4½ gears Gone now :(
2009 900 abs, 42k miles, Yamaha heated grips, double bubble screen, R&G crash bungs, scottoiler, Autocom, 1500 lumen LED spotlights.
